Traded in my CW9 yesterday for a new CM9. The CW9 was an awesome piece, but I wanted something a little smaller to compliment by double stack 9mm subcompact pistol I already own. I used Jocko's guide to clean her up for the first time, then used the recommended lube diagram to prepare her for the range. i practiced racking her with some snap caps before and after, and boy did the cleaning and lube job make a difference.
Took her to the range this afternoon for her break-in. I brought along 2 boxes of Remington UMC, a box of Sellier and Beloit, and a box of Fiocchi. I also brought along a mixed box of self defense ammo I wanted to test, Federal HSTS and Critical Defense XTP(?).
To start off with, the pistol performed beautifully. As a matter of fact, things were going so well, I decided I would stop with the FMJ at 150 rounds. She ate everything I fed it, even in a 6+1 configuration. No nose dives, no FTF. I was even sling shotting the first round. It were awesome.
I loaded up the Federal HST and shot off the first mag, and the last round failed to feed. I fired it off, loaded up the second round, and the last round FTF. I noticed at that time, that the follower had broken! EEEEK! I had no idea this was a problem with the CM9s. To make matters worse, when I was diagnosing the magazine problem, I shot the mag guts out all over the range! Now, I can't find the base plate lock! My brand new pretty CM9 is on injured reserve with no magazine lock plate. :(
I sent Kahr Technical Support an email already and am hoping to hear back from them soon. I'd like them to slip a new base plate in with the follower they will probably send me so I can avoid the $10.00 shipping charge on an $8.80 part!
BTW, the guys at the range, no doubt, got a big kick out of my misfortunate accident, but if they knew me well, they would understand that I do this kind of stuff all the time *le sigh* :D

If you reported the problem and the loss of the base plate lock plate, I would hope that they would send you one of those, too. Get some more mags ASAP. I recommend at least three because mags break or fall out in scuffles, etc., and it's nice to have a spare with you to reload, in any event.
Here's a good place with FAST cheap service and good prices when the mags are in stock. They charge a flat fee for USPS Priority Mail and you can get one or more withing three days, generally. I like the 8-round extended grip for spare carry and range use the 8-rounders for all 3 of my 9mm Kahrs... PM9, P9, and K9.

Already heard back from Jay at Customer Service! That's exactly what he is doing. Sending me a new follower and base lock plate!
Kahr 1 - codegeek 1 WIN - WIN!!
Thanks for the info on the additional magazines. I actually have two (1 extended) on the way already!

Good! More mags is better, though, and get the 8-round extended for "high-capacity" spare and range use... or SD. I carry the largest capacity available as a spare for whatever Kahr I'm carrying... which has the "flushest" mag for max concealment.
Stuff happens and two can become ONE, and one can become NONE at the most inopportune time! Part of my buying a new weapon is buying extra mags before I even get the pistol/rifle.
We have had several people like you... one guy with that his only weapon and one mag... that broke! He was very upset, but most of us have a least ONE spare tire in or on our vehicle when we leave the house... some more.

You need to have jay send you a shipping label so they can take a little off the bottom of the feed ramp . THAT is what striking your follower and he is well aware of the problem. Put a new one in it and it will get broke too sooner or later. Call jay back and talk it out. Or do as some have an grin a little of and polish it at home !!

@hardluk1 - I am aware of the feed ramp issue and mentioned it to Jay. Since I have a spare follower from my experiments with Greg's Mod for the CW9, I'm gonna break one more before I go to work on the feed ramp.
@wyntrout - well... I just got it yesterday. forgive me for being excited about taking it to the range with only the 1 mag :) I do have more mags in the mail, and all my other weapons have 2 or more magazines as well.

you should give it one more breakage and then send it back. I broke onefollower in over 32K + rounds. Have no idea when it broke even as the gun never quit working. I like you didn't want to part with the gun and this was way back before we started seein more of this follower breakage sh!t, so I chalkedit up to a bad follower. I have never broken one again. sometimes the gun works out its own kinds, but again give it one more breakage, save allbroken parts and then call Jay and state ur case and they will issue a pickup and fix it right. I think ur doin the right thing. Keep an eye on that new floor plate and locking plate, it it seems alittle loose on that magazine, u can give the floor plate a slight squueze and tighten up the slideing on the mag well tube. This will sove the issue. Who know, that locking plate might have even been installed backwards. test out the new set up once u get it back together. If it feels loose "it is loose" then close up that slide portion of the magazine tube a tad.:amflag:

Today, my replacement follower and base lock plate came in from Kahr to compliment the two new magazines I received in the mail over the weekend! Tomorrow, I'm going to take her to the range and see if I can get her to break again. I'm thinking, 25 rounds at a go, then check the follower for wear and tear?!?

I took her back to the range today for a quickie at lunch. I fired off another 50 rounds of UMC 115gr, and not a problem in the world. After every magazine, I checked the follower, and I can't tell if its getting hit by the feed ramp or not. I THINK I can see a line about half way down below the lip of the follower and the top of magazine, but I call that inconclusive. Not sure what to make of it at this point. I didn't fire in SD ammo. I guess I am in wait and see mode....

You're gonna miss your CW9. I can tell you all about it. :(
But you will continue to like the CM9.
I have seen a few posts about the CM9 breaking followers. It got me wondering, is this a issue with the PM9 also? If not, why is it a CM9 issue?

My PM9 broke there followers before I sent it in for the modification.
No broken followers since.
Do newer PM9s have this issue? Mine was purchased on June.

Today, my little CM9 ate no-name 9mm FMJ, Federal HST JHP, and Critical Duty FTX with zero problems, and promptly broke the slide on my new 7 round magazine! Back to the factory she goes!

It came back today. This is what the action taken says:
INSPECTED FIREARM - NEW MAG FOLLOWER - LUBED AND TEST FIRED - OK
WTF?
In fairness to Kahr, the barrel is no longer moving when I insert a magazine with the slide locked back. Maybe they tweaked the feed ramp. We'll see. I'm taking it to the range at lunch.

I fired 150 rounds through her with no broken follower. I'll take that as a good sign.
