View Full Version : MK9-Striker pin inconsistent and other issues

When racking the slide and dry firing a handful of times in a row, I notice that when I slowly allow the slide to return to battery, the striker pin sometimes extends past the breech face (then retracts as the slide closes), and sometimes it does not extend past the breech face at all. This inconsistency is causing concern.

I have other problems;
1. FTE and fail to feed due to FTE. Happens about 15% of time. It was sent back to Kahr and they reworked the extractor and said it was fine. In fact it was not much improved if at all. (I dont think they run enough test rounds through to properly diagnose and then to confirm the fix.)

2. Ejection direction is eractic, usually the last case in the mag hits me in the forehead.

I totally field stripped the slide and cleaned it, there are no obvious signs of problems.

I am debating either sending it back to Karh again or finding a local smith with experience with Kahrs - a Kahr mechanic :)

If any of you have similar experience and have had positive improvements please let me know.

-MK9
-1000 rounds or more with various rounds and grains
-Trigger is like buttah
-I love this gun, but if it won't go bang without locking up, I have to find another IWB piece.

As described, the striker appears to be functioning as intended. The striker is a non-rebounding type (I.E. there's no rebound spring) so it may or may not be extending past the breech face after being released. As the slide returns to battery the striker engages the cocking cam and is partially cocked (being held back at a point past where the striker block is engaged).

As to the failures to eject or erratic ejection: if "I totally field stripped the slide" means you've done a complete cleaning of the slide to include the extractor tunnel in the slide, then I'd be inclined to replace the extractor and extractor spring.
Another thought on this, but more specific to the last round ejection issue: my CW45 had a similar issue, what I found is detailed here: http://www.kahrtalk.com/showpost.php?p=15669&postcount=3
