Just got an offer from GUN TESTS for subscription, free issue, and their Annual Buying Guide as a gift. They tell you candidly, they are the most honest , outspoken consumer gun source in existence! (for the last 25 years) ....On-target revelations only GUN TESTS has the guts to make!
Okay, I gotta say, they got my attention. So I read on and I read this: (quote)

Dear Fellow Shooter:
You're darn right guns have secrets! Just look...
The Kahr PM4543 .45 ACP has a secret. Several times during testing the recoil spring wedged the outgoing empty or the incoming round against the magazine, jamming it in place. You'd better be a good first shot or hope the bad guys are polite enough to wait! (unquote)

Are they saying something that really is a secret? Or is their "secret revelation" just another way of saying 'you better plan on putting a couple hundred rounds through this gun for a break-in period'? Which or what are they saying? And, has anybody has experience with GUN TESTS magazine? Is it worth $20 for 10 issues?

I used to get it then a coworker started sharing his with me. Kind of got away from it sometime back.

Its a good magazine, they buy the guns they test and don't accept advertising so they aren't obligated to say nice things. They are sometimes brutally honest which can be good and sometimes bad.

They pretty much call em like they see them. Weather they allow for break in or flukes I don't know.

I don't know about the magazine, but that never happened to my PM45 when I had it. In fact, I'll probably buy a CM45 if they ever appear.

Yellow journalism

Okay, so maybe the $20 bucks for GUN TESTS might not be a total waste as far as honest appraisals are concerned, and hey, yellow journalism has its own appeal. But I still want to get a Kahr .45 ACP for concealed carry, just not sure whether I want a PM45 or a CW45- I've read that the CW45 will successfully accept 1911 Officer's Model magazines (with slight Modification) which would certainly be nice for range use, if that's so. I got a couple of those....

The PM45 will accept 1911 mags also. Like the CW, some need minor mods and some work as is.

Mine will run Wilson mags unmodified.

The thing about Gun Test is they just call it the way it is down to the slightest detail. They will often say this is good BUT it would be better if they did this.

Likewise they will sometimes say we had this issue but we did this and it seemed to be cured.
It's like they are one of us buying the gun and testing it.

They can be downright fussy about things sometimes. I enjoyed it when I saw it but like everything else you have to take it all in, sort the wheat from the barley and make your own decision.
