View Full Version : Conceal Carry in a Business Casual

I have a CM9 that I carry in a Shepherd's Leather hybrid holster (similar to Crossbreed). It's an excellent holster and works really well, when I'm wearing an untucked shirt.
However, when I have to wear my shirt tucked in with khaki parts, it produced a noticeable bulge.
Pocket carry would probably be alright for short periods of time, but I'm not sure if it's ideal for a 10 hour day.
I'm looking for other holster or carry options for when I'm going business casual.

The bulge is gonna happen with tucked IWB, but I suspect you are way more aware of it than most others would be, especially with a small cm9. Blousing your shirt is one work around to hide it a bit more.
If it still bugs you a lot and since you have the small cm you could go with something like;
- ankle carry
- smartcarry or similar holsters
- belly band
I'd lean toward the smartcarry as it can also hold a magazine, too. I use this same setup when I know I am going to be attending something that will likely turn in to a hugfest - think weddings, funerals, reunions and so on.
Good luck.

I load up for hug fest. Even a second gun along with fixed blade knife and an ankle gun too just in case anyone wants to play footsie under the table.
Makes people wonder what the hell I'm up to and I just love that don't you?

You might consider a stylish appropriate business casual vest of some sort. I have one similar to a 511 vest but doesn't scream Tactical so bad.
In an office environment even though I don't care for it as a primary carry location I'd go with the ankle carry.
I face immediate termination if I'm caught wearing a gun in my office. So far I'm still working here and the PM45 is there every single minute of every violet filled day.
I've even carried a compact 1911 in the ankle rig a few times.
If you want to stick it to the man bad enough, you'll find a way.

I'm not so bold as Bawanna to carry in the office even though I wish the rules allowed it. But the bulge predicament is a perfect excuse for another gun! I carry my CW45 most of the time but have a little Sig P238 in a DeSantis pocket holster for when I can't wear an untucked shirt. You can carry it all day and not know its there. If the mythical CW380 ever becomes reality I'm getting one of those because I love a DAO weapon, which the sweet shooting Sig is not.http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/03/asyby4at.jpg

I carry under the arm pit in a pistol wear sub compact holster. I look a little lopsided, but nobody notices.

I use a DeSantis Nemesis with my S&W 342 ti J-Frame.
DeSantis SuperFly with my HK P2000SK 357 Sig / Kahr MK40 Elite.
I've got Galco Ankle Glove holsters too.
But for me, most of the time, Florida is too hot for ankle carry.
I do use a Desantis Neoprene Ankle Mag Holder though.

I pocket carry. Bulge, big deal! With cell phones, wallets, keys, maybe a pen or two, people have so much junk they are carrying around, nobody notices a PMJ9 in a pocket holster. I carry that way for more than 10 hours.

How do ya defend yourself the other, hmmm lets see 24 - 10, 4-0 = 0 2-1 - 1 the other 14 hours?
Damn I'm getting wicked quick with my ciphering ain't I?

Since I tip the scales at well over 3 bills, no amount of effort is going to hide a belt-carried Kahr under my enormous gut.
So I just pocket carry an LCP in warm weather shorts, or the CW45 in jacket pockets during cool weather.
Pocket carry in casual business pants (CM9) works great for me. I stand all day about 50 hours/week. I wear a thick bull hide belt in a burgundy, goes with everything, color. DeSantis pocket holster. No problem walking a couple of miles home with pistol in pocket. I have never been "made". More comfortable for me than a tucked IWB holster. Also prints less, and if I bump into someone at work, nobody feels a pocket pistol unlike a belt carried pistol. Have not seriously tried my bellyband or my shoulder holster which is worn like a bellyband, only higher, at work. Would be an easier draw while seated, but an occasional hug would give me away. A few days ago I received a TachiPac deep concealment "groin" holster for my 40 S&W Shield . No printing, but have not worn it long enough to evaluate for comfort. Haven't worn my CM9 in my cell phone -carries below the belt holster much, because it takes a two handed draw. Easy to draw while seated, however.

Slip a P380 in yer right front pocket. It's perfect for business casual. Just like my Mastercard. I don't leave home without it.

Now that is funny right there, I don't care who you are.

Try a smart carry.
I wear mine when it's hard to hide anything else around my waist. However, I don't wear it in the crotch area. I position the gun in my normal 08:30 location with most of the grip just above my belt. It's surprising how much flatter the profile is when compared to any of my other IWB, it's even slimmer than a ramora holster (which I don't like around my waist).

I've pocket carried a CW40 in a cheap pocket holster for nearly a year and no one, wife included, has made it. Your CM9 is smaller, so should be no problem.
The pocket needs to be large, however, so not all pants' pockets work. Dark colors and pleated style pants hide better. Need to wear a belt for the extra weight.
If asked, my planned answer that my key ring has too many keys on it. Although depending on the situation I might ask why they're so interested in the front of my pants...

Some holsters snug up better than others. I had a Silent Thunder IWB for my PM9 that was excellent even tucked under a white shirt (fluffed it out a bit). Nothing will conceal under an elastic golf shirt so IWB would be out of the question there.
Now it's also true I didn't and still don't have people of either gender be huggy toward me other than family who know I (and want me to) carry.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to give pocket carry a try.

Another vote for the Desantis Nemesis and pocket carry. When I'm off duty I have a Keltec PF9 and it is always there. Get a small cell phone pouch for a spare magazine and you are good to go.

I did say MORE than... It is actually in my pocket, or right next to me around the clock. If you use a digital clock, you will have to do the math yourself. :)
I was converted from the Desantis holsters to the Stays Put though by JFootin I believe. They are more comfortable, easier to draw, and keep the crud out of the pistol because they aren't open on the bottom. Cheaper to boot.

Try a remora - no belt clips to show. Tuck your shirt around it, blouse it out, and it's invisible.

Now there's a smart man. +1 on Remora. Not only comfortable and inexpensive, but not as noticeable and stays put. Look at their leather lined model.

If you can't hide it IWB in a Remora...you might look at changing into something different or leave your T shirt untucked. At times, tucking can be the cause of this problem. I wear mine with gym shorts and a tank top when I go for fast walks with my wife.

The 35% off coupon above is from Remora, by the way.

I was kinda wondering...but thought so. Remoras are already priced right. This is a no brainer. I'm tempted to get me a leather lined now. Thanks.

That's what I do. Horizontal belt clip, and I have a tiny wallet that fits there next to the phone.

I ended up going with the Desantis Super Fly. I don't love it, but it works. I'm able to carry in situations that otherwise wasn't. I can live with the heaviness in my pocket.

Good quality choice, let's face it, any gun worth carrying is going to be inconvenient at best.

True...and I'm sure that it won't be as noticeable to me after I've carried it that way for a while.

I have a leather lined one and it is nice, but the leather lining tends to grip the weapon a little more that their normal lining. Maybe it would wear in, but for me, it griped to the point of pointing a holstered gun at my target a few times. ;)
Because of that, I prefer their normal lining.
I also have ones with partial sweat shields and full sweat shields. I don't like those because it makes it a little more difficult to wrap your fingers around the grip to grasp the weapon. So, for me, their original standard holster is the most concealable and the most comfortable, and easiest to draw from. I like it! But I don't do tucked shirts with it. I wear an ankle holster on those days.

I use a Sneaky Pete Holster it is visible but looks like a PDA case. It is also designed so when removing the gun you do not grab the trigger. As a round chambered is a life saved.
