As an indication of how much one can save over time, I noticed while checking Lucky Gunner this morning that 1000 rounds of 115gr 9mm is $195 cheaper than a relatively good price on 1000 rounds of .45 ACP. Admittedly, that was 9mm reloads in bags of 100 versus new boxed PMC, but comparable .45 ACP are not even available virtually anywhere. It is simply best price versus best price, whatever is available.

It seems the challenge is to do better than $20 per box on .45 ACP and anything under $12 on the 9mm.

The current champ for me seems to be the local WalMart with Federal 9mm at $9.83. I would have to pay 7% tax. They have no .45 ACP at all, no matter what grade, brand or price. Alas, I don't currently need any 9mm or have budget available to hoard any more. I just bought the .40 S&W supply I wanted and have no rationale for caching more ammo.

What I had in mind was brass cases that can be reloaded. Then you have to move up a couple dollars, but it is worth it. I just looked and for what is actually in stock in quality brass like Starline, the price has moved up to the 30-35 cent range for each round. Cost per round for new factory ammo has moved to over 50 cents (above $25 per box). I think these components are now priced for the demand created by the popularity of the reloading option, so it takes picked up, reconditioned brass to make sense of any of it. Otherwise, few shooters have a choice but to shoot less or to raise money somehow.

Don't pin an error on yourself without proper consideration dude. If you don't reload, the aluminum case blazer might be the best deal for you. I shoot it sometimes and I have a lot of cases but lack of time. If you ever intend to reload I suggest getting a reloadable case whenever you possibly can. Pick up brass whenever you can too, even if it's not yours and everyone's ok with it. If it comes to shooting blazer or not shooting I'd be shooting blazer. No error involved here. Hold your head up.

That's pretty much what I say, I don't reload and have not had a problem with Blazer. If it trips your trigger, then shoot it, shoot it more rinse and repeat.

Some guy shoots 9mm at our local range and leaves the brass on the ground. I tidy things up every time I go, his brass and mine. Reloading is the only way I can shoot as much as I want. After the initial investment, it is still cheaper than Wally World.

You just know someone is going to post about WalMart, but I have found .45 there once in 6 months among three or four stores. There are lots of other good prices posted here and there that also say "out of stock".

I do not consider Walmart ammo prices when I look at what ammo costs...

2 reasons...

1 they rarely ever have any ammo I need in stock, when they do I can only buy 6 boxes and Walmart is not a gun store.

2 Dave.....For the 2 extra bucks I will buy my bullets from Dave, have a cup of coffee, and possibly hold the new Remington 1911 that just came out and talk about his sons second year in college. In my opinion saving 2 bucks on 50 rounds at Walmart is severly over rated. I shot alot! about 250 rounds per week between USPSA and practice with all my weapons. I also reload and Dave sells me most all of my primers, powder and other supplies. I like having a local gun store, I have nothing against anyone who buys from Walmart but it twists my shorts when they come into Daves store and pee and moan because walmart hasn't had any ammo for 5 weeks and they can't shoot because Dave in stock Bullets for 11.99 instead of Walmarts non exisitant one at 9.85. That is just wrong. When dave has a sale I buy a big pile of bullets.
