Gonna jump right in with both feet on my very first post. Talk me in to a Kahr CM9. First a little background. I carry a Glock 27 but I'm looking for something a little smaller and thinner, especially during the spring, summer, and fall. My concern with the Kahr is this. A good friend had a Kahr PM40 and it was a wonderful little pistol but it had a lot of FTF's and had to be sent back to Kahr. All problems were experienced by several different shooters(including myself), with different ammo, well over 250 rounds down the tube, and with different magazines. My friend finally got frustrated with it and traded it off.

So that experience has me a little concerned about the Kahr. I can pick up a new CM9 or CM40 for a little over $400 OTD. I really like these little pistols and really think he just got a lemon or maybe gave up a little too soon. Any words of wisdom here???

Had my CM9 for 8 months. Approaching 1500 rounds and not one glitch. Not even an FTE or FTF. It is my constant companion. Maybe I am just lucky but am sold on it.

I'm a Glock guy too. I have a bunch of them and usually carry a 23. I pocket carry a LCP. I wanted something in 9mm to pocket carry and the CM9 seemed like it was the smallest quality gun available.
I like it except I can't get used to the trigger. I've only shot it once, but I put 300 rounds through it. I didn't have a malfunctions.
I will be shooting it again this weekend.

Also here's my Tundra 5.7

I personally have PM9, but little brother CM is just as good. Not a single FTF. Yesterday at the range 20 rounds at 40 feet all within 4 inch

pimping tundra. I like :)

If you get a good one you are gold.

If you get a lemon it will drive you to drink.

Very nice Tundra. Here's a pic of mine I took several months ago.

Thanks for the advice on the pistol.

Thanks!

Nice truck! Mine had the same wheels when it was new. I shaved all my badges and stickers. I don't care for badges on any truck. The Tundra has was too many.

I say since you shot one already and you know how the trigger is. If you can deal with that then go for it

The lemon part is what concerns me!:D

I had a few FTFs and FTEs during the first 150 rounds that I now attribute to getting used to the gun. Since then it's been flawless. Just buy it. You'll have a fine firearm.

Does the price sound reasonable or do I need to keep looking?

a bit over 400 out the door? I would say yes for a brand new gun. It is actually a really good price :)

Just went shopping for one yesterday for my step-father. We went and rented one first, which he liked. The rental got 50 rounds and no malfunctions. He bought his for $425 at a LGS. Other prices I found were $469 LGS where we rented one (always overpriced) and $420 at Cabelas. The other LGS was closer than Cabelas, so the $5 didn't make much difference.

My regular LGS has them for $400, but were out of stock. They also give a LEO price there which would have been $355 for me, but not for my step-father. Kind of shows what the mark-up is.

I just took my CM9 out of my pocket and put it to bed in my drawer. Then I got the Glock out of the safe for night duty.

No issues with the CM9 or CW9. The Glock is a Glock.

That's a decent price. I paid $399 out the door for mine new at the gun show in West Palm Beach about 4 weeks ago.

I used to own a PM9. It's a well built gun for the most part, but they have some quirks.

The magazines leave quite a lot to be desired. My gun had to be sent back because of broken followers (common, caused from hitting the bottom of the feed ramp) and the magazines not dropping free (also common). Also a fully loaded spare magazine left in your pocket will result in the top round finding its way loose. Then there is the fact that you must chamber the first round of a magazine by releasing the slide stop. No sling shot or power stroke with these guns, at least not until it's well broken in (1000 rounds for me).

The trigger, while buttery smooth, is as long as the day. This is the guns safety, like a double action revolver. This makes accuracy a challenge for many (myself included), but is necessary as there is no other external safety device. The reset on the trigger is also very long, as in all the way back to its starting point. This makes quick follow up shots more difficult. You must learn the trigger and train with this gun if you hope to shoot it accurately.

The gun is built like a tank, very high quality. The fit is very tight and it does require a break in, but the more you shoot it the better it gets. My PM9 was 100% reliable with over 1000 rounds of various range ammo and JHP's with exception of the broken follower that Kahr promptly repaired on their dime. Even with a broken follower it never malfunctioned except when the slide failed to lock back, which is how I discovered it.

The gun will disappear in a good holster, and is a dream to carry. It can be carried on the waist, ankle, or pocket with ease. Recoil is a bit snappy, but not too bad, especially given the size and weight. Capacity is on par with similar guns of its size, which is to say the bare minimum. It is not a duty weapon, but makes a great BUG or very concealable EDC.

In the end I traded my PM9 for a Glock 26. The Kahr trigger wasn't something I could master to my liking, but the gun did its part, it went bang every time I asked it to. If you are looking for a gun you can hide with ease and don't mind the trigger and little quirks that go with it, the CM/PM is a great choice. If you do go with the Kahr this forum the best resource available to help you get the most out of it

2006 Double cab 4x4 (The last year that the Double Cab had a real back seat :) ) owner here with a CM9 that has been flawless. Get yourself one. I have a CW45 that is great and my CW9 that I traded for the CM9 was flawless also.

Get one and you'll be happy, happy.

It really doesn't matter to me whether you get a CM9 or not. There are plenty of us who are big fans of Kahr pistols for concealed carry. I can get anything I want, and would have a CM9 except I had a PM9 before they were introduced and it has been flawless for years. So, get whatever you want, we will all be fine.

Alfonse makes a good point ... we don't need you to decide to buy a Kahr to keep liking ours. We'll be fine whatever you do; but you would be doing yourself a favor if you did ... especially an MK9.

I have a cm9 and FMJ are 100% but JHP are about 95%. With JHP they sometimes nosedive and hang on the feed ramp. Also, my gun loves to eat followers.

I've recently shortened the feed ramp and mirror polished it. Also reshaped a few followers to improve feed angle. Been 100% the last 100 rounds or so with JHP.

Buy it cause there is no better alternative in my opinion and know the quality control varies and yours might be 100% out of the box or take a while to get running perfectly (either by sending it back and forth to kahr or self tweaking). But once you get it running properly they are unbeatable.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to call a dealer about 30 miles away to check their price out. Probably won't be worth the gas but worth a call!

I just sent my CM9 back to the factory to fix the same problem KGNickl was having with broken followers. I'm going to let them do the work so the warranty is still valid. Other than that, my CM9 has been 100% reliable with every type of ammunition (FMJ and JHP) that I have fed her. I'm pretty stoked about her and can't wait to get her back.

^^I fall into this camp.

With that said, if you get a "lemon" Kahr will make it right.
I've sent guns back from 4 different manufactures(not Kahr though) and never had a gun come back not fixed.

Same here. CM's were not out when I got my PM40. Flawless. All good. I keep reading about lemons. You can get them in anything you buy from anyone. Kahrs are good.

remember what we read here and there is that this is the internet and one can put into print any damn thing he wants. Doesn't have to be the truth or not. Kahr like most allgun makes do not make junk, but they do occassionally put out a gun that needs togo back for some TLC, as to all utter gun makers. Most all of the forum members arenot kahr fanboi's IMO. they like they kahrs, they truyst their kahrs and most will tell it how it is to.
