Somewhere on the forum a guy complained about the extended mag plastic bases breaking....he only likes the metal base mags. I did not understand this. I have dropped my extended mags from my PM40 hundreds of times and have not broken a single base. They seem very rugged. In fact, many manufacturers use some form of a poly or plastic base on their mags. Not uncommon. It seems to me that empty mags are designed to be dropped to the ground...and guns are designed to cause empty mags drop freely to the ground or your hand (depending on the situation). Some guns/mags may not operate properly and do not drop the mag freely, requiring that the mag be pulled from the gun....but this is not the normal design. Some guys may not even care if their mags drop freely. This is not the point of this thread.
My question is: Is anyone having a problem with the plastic bases breaking on extended mags? Has anyone ever had one of the plastic bases break on an extended mags out of your CM or PM or other....and what caused that to happen? I have not heard of mag bases being a problem before and your input would be helpful.
Thanks for your input.
