My Kahr CW9 Pistol Break In Saga: Part 1- Failure!
Bottom line: 8 malfunctions in the first 30 rounds, trigger failing to reset, gun go's back to Kahr!
Addendum: In the first part of the video I said I thought the elaborate pre-break in prep was "Horse Hockey." I'll admit that I was the one full of HH! In the month that lapsed between the intro and the range I did go ahead and follow the prep step by step. Also, you'll see me slingshot the slide. I know the manual says from slide lock but wanted to try it anyway. I did both during the range session and it made no difference either way. Also, I never meant to imply that Kahr is junk. I was just very disappointed.

were all 8 malfunctions a trigger reset??? Did u clean the striker channel??? If it has crude in it, u will get light strikes.
can u manually rack the slide (no rounds) and then pullthe trigger and get the same light strike??? u should be ableto pullthe slide back about a 1/4" and get a full triger reset. can u get that??? If when a live round is in the chamber is the gun in full battery, even a tad out of batery willgive lite strikes.
That little clean out hjole on the bottom of the slide is a greatplace tostick your cleaning spray nozzle and blow any and all crapola out of the striker channe. but personally nuttin beats taking the striker channel apart and spraycleanng it. If it is compacted in the channel area, that clean out holer might not get it all out. Just trying to give u some little pointers to check out before sending it back to kahr.
If u have a trigger bar that is out of spec, then it needfs to go back but at least in ur mind u can eliminate any of the possabilities mentioned. Then if all else fail, email kahr, attn Jay state ur case, be polite and they will issue a pickup.

Some failures to slide lock on last round, a few FTF, once it released the slide and chambered a round at mag insertion. The trigger reset was random. A round would fire, slide cycled, round chambered and locked in battery, no trigger reset. Sometimes there would be only the amount of movement you feel after pulling the trigger on empty chamber. Sometimes it was like it was half cocked ie: pull trigger, feel slight resistance and then quiet click sound. No mark on primer. Next several rounds trigger reset as normal.
I gave the pistol a clean and lube exactly according to the instructions I found here.
I appreciate all the help I can get!

Shadow; I read your posts on the 1911 Forum & they pretty much summed it up. Kahr needs to take it back on their dime & fix it. This story can have a happy ending.

I emailed Jay yesterday and gave him the details. Within a couple of hours I had a prepaid Fedex overnight return label. I dropped it off at Fedex today. No complaints with the service so far.

you will not be disappointed with the CW9 when it's "tweaked". We all get an occasional lemon (been there, done than, there again with a different one myself), but the CW9 is probably one of the least troublesome compact handguns on the market today. And Kahr does stand behind their warranty.

I can give another +1 on Kahr service. When I bought my PM9 I was having all kinds of problems with light primer strikes. Sent it in and they replaced the slide and barrel. Worked perfect when I got it back. Great service. I have since bought a CW40 which has been perfect from the start.
I'll give a +1 on the CW9 in general. I probably have put over 1500 rounds with no issues (except my wife having 1 limp-wrist feed issue).

me thinks they test fire one round or something at the factory and call it good.
it will be interesting if they fix it and tell you what was causing the malfunctions instead of just a parts replacement list.

No offense but are you purposely trying to tarnish Kahr? I understand this whole thing is ridiculous having to send in a new firearm. But **** happens with anything mass produced. I just saw you posted on 1911 and survivalist boards. Kahr will get it right guaranteed.
I have 1k though my cw9 and not even the slightest malfunction.

Nope, not at all. Just updating the status for those that may be interested in how long it takes to get it back from factory service. Most posts on the subject I've seen here state they got theirs back within 2 weeks.
If I didn't think Kahr was a reputable company with quality products I never would have bought the CW9 in the first place. This is not the first Kahr I've owned. In the 90s I bought a P40 and had no complaints with it. Just didn't like the round. Bought my wife a K9 about that time. Again no problem with the gun, wife just preferred her PPK. Neither required any break in nor had any malfunctions. This is why I'm so disappointed in the CW9.
I posted on the other forums because I'm also a member there. I thought the info might be helpful to others and not every Kahr owner or prospective owner is on this forum.
Hope this clears things up.

It's worth noting also that the turn around time can be drastically effected by the issue. It may require a new slide for example and maybe they don't have one that isn't destined for a new gun.
My K40 had that issue, it was peening. It was all black. I called to check status and I think it was a nice lady named Dorothy (no relation to Wizard of Oz or Toto) told me it needed a slide and they were waiting for a black one.
I really wanted a stainless one anyhow so I asked to upgrade, I got it the very next day with a shiny stainless slide and no charge. I guess the black is the upgrade and they warrantied it regardless.
Dorothy was happy, I was happy, I'm sure everyone at Kahr was happy. That makes a happy, happy, happy, what's not to absolutely not love about that.

Fedex just delivered it about 10 minutes ago. One day shy of 3 weeks. Paper says they adjusted the trigger bar, lubed it and tested okay. That remains to be seen. I'll be taking it to the range either thursday or friday to find out. Will report back soon on the results.

just hate it when a person posts on eery fokking forum the ills of hisgun I often wonder if they would do the same on all the gun forumns for when the guns performs like it is expected. Probably not..

So, are you saying that problems with Kahr pistols should only be posted on Kahr sponsored forums? I'm reporting on the ills of MY specific pistol. I have no axe to grind. I'll report the good as well as the bad for those who may want the information before spending their hard earned dollars.
I may not have been as clear as I could have been. I WANT this CW9 to become as reliable as yours! I paid my hard earned dollars for it with the intention of making it my main EDC pistol. There is NO upside for me if it continues to have problems. If it runs like a swiss watch from now on I will report that on all the fokking forums. If not, I will report that too.

its a free cuntry, u can post where ever u want, we see this with utter gun makes as well. Never made alot of sense to me to go on a kel tek forum or Ruger forum and post other makers guns that are not working correctly.
There are many Swiss watchs that don't work right either.. On this kahr forum we actually see very very little of other gun makers bashing comments.:Amflag2:

Of course not. Because it's a KAHR FORUM!
Why complain about some other gun maker on this forum? Makes no sense. Complain about Glocks on the Glock forum, Rugers on the Ruger forum, Springfield Armory's etc., etc., etc.
