I purchased my CW45 used from a gun shop and it is in great condition but upon firing a few magazines I noticed the Slide Stop Pin works its way out. I looked up the issue and found that I needed to adjust the little spring that retains the pin, so I did.

Yesterday, I went shooting with my brother and girlfriend for the first time in months. I went through a mag with no problems, then my brother loaded up a mag and about halfway through a shell casing hit my girl in the chest and scared her then I felt one hit me in the balls. But, when I looked down I saw that is was not a casing but the Slide Stop Pin that had ejected from the gun flew 5 feet and hit me right in the nuts. I was able to tell my brother to stop shooting before he fired again, thankfully.

What is the issue? Should I try replacing the Slide Stop Pin and Spring or should contact Kahr about it?

Thanks for reading.

Hi, Will. Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry that you had problems with your CW45.

I wonder if the left side of the slide lock spring was warped in or out and not going into the detent on the pin of the SL. The pin can work its way out, but I hadn't heard of it flying out like that. Attacking you and the young lady is not usual... maybe it's possessed!

I would want to replace the spring, the screw, and the washer... and maybe the SL, but it's more likely just the first three parts. The screw is threaded into plastic and if you strip the threads, the "fix" is supposed to be a new frame. That may be your problem, anyhow.

I would remove the screw and washer and spring and try to clean the threads in the frame and the screw before reassembly. I'll show some pictures in a moment. I have all of those parts as spares for my Kahrs, though I don't maintain spare SL's. The SL spring must be in good condition and can be easily damaged on either side by careless insertion of the SL pin on the left and the SL actuator on the right. My PM45 actually was damaged on both side and the spring was replaced under warranty. THEN, the next trip to the range the new spring broke cleanly in half at the pin side at the range! Really strange. That was replaced as well and I've had no problems with the PM45 since.

Please watch the Kahr disassembly and re-assembly video, especially the portion starting around 4:30 about the slide lock spring and insertion of the SL:

Now some pictures of the SL. The spring should lie flat with only the "free" end pointing up, as in the right spring. The left one is warped several ways and the free end is not straight up. The other end is bent into the paper towel a bit. Neither end was doing its job.

The pin is best inserted with the lever at 3:30 and down a bit so that the pin goes by the pin and doesn't catch and bend the left side. Then the pin is aligned vertically with the lever at 3:00 and aligned with the notch in the slide for proper insertion, allowing the SL actuator to go UNDER the free end on the right. The slide lock spring holds the SL down until the follower of an empty magazine presses the lever upwards to engage the slide lock notch on the slide.

I added a few more pix... the damaged parts, and a few pix of the partially assembled pistol showing the warped spring and how it didn't allow the pin to be securely retained close to the pistol's frame. The pin is easily worked out, as your did.

Wynn:)
