View Full Version : Let's Fly The Flag!

I've looked out my office window for a few years now and pondered my neighbor's flying the flag on one of those porch holders. Thinking more about it I got the notion that if the right minded neighbors all did that, perhaps it would send a message to the bad guys that we won't stand for any nonsense.

Then the more I thought about it, I got the notion if all of the Constitutionally minded Americans did this it and it was known to be a statement to the administration to stop their nonsense, that it might become uplifting for those fighting for us in the battle.

So, I'll be talking to my neighbors about it to see how many orders to get. I've decided for my house and think it would be something to get a national pride in the REAL, Constitutional, America making a statement to wake up and stand up. You know, make it mean more than just flying the flag.

Okay, now you can tell me I'm late to the party. I realize that already but I'm not ever going to become a hell raiser against something so much as a cheerleader for the right thing. :Amflag2:

The American flag has been flying on the fronts of my homes 24/7/365 for over 37 years. At times there has been a yellow ribbon tied to the tree out front also when one of the neighbors sons were off to war.:Amflag2:

Got 2 flying here. Even take two more to fly on our motor home when we're traveling. Wear flag pins on my ball caps too. It is the right thing to do. Represent.

I'm thinking of a huge tall flag pole with the same thoughts and idea's that my pal Old Lincoln mentions.

Something really big. I have a large front yard. I'm kind of end of the line but I do get some traffic. Just seems like the right thing to do.

Ours flys 24/7 under our lighted front porch and has as long as I can remember....The guy across the street from us has a double lot and has a 35 foot flagpole in his front yard with spot lights on it...Sometimes in bed at night when the wind gets up I can hear it flapping....Sounds like Freedom.....

we flew flags with the "porch post" poles for several years, and the wind kept destroying them. I finally started hanging a flag in my office on the wall - vertical with the blue field in the upper left corner, of course.

My wife has been the "flag lady" at our church for at least the last 15 years. We take care of 25-30 flags for every occasion warranted (and some we think should be).

Other than the "Cross", there's no other symbol that stirs me as much as the stars and stripes of the U. S flag .... well, there IS the Texas flag, and the Stars and Bars too. I still tear up during the Star Spangled Banner, but sometimes I wonder if that ain't from my rodeo days of riding barebacks and I was anticipating the pain of biting the fence or wearing hoof prints as soon as the words "... and the home of the brave" were fading out.

Gosh I love you guys. You're good family and your patriotism is far beyond reproach. I'm limping along after the train as it pulls out of the stations but I'll be aboard soon. My wife asked me why not take our grandson to get a flag with his grandpa tomorrow? Think I will.

sad thing for most kids today is that they have no real clue what the flag flys for, or what vets day is, pledge of aligence, hell its about gone to. liberal athesist pigs say no no.

When we had our business we sold alot of American flags but that was back in the day when in any subdivision u could fly a flag. Wehad alot of WW!! vets comeinto our business and as a yhong kid back then I even didnb't understand like I do today. but those vets would look over any product like a drill or radio or mixer and if that fokker said madein Japan, it just set there. Back when the first raansistor smallbattery radios came out 50 + years ago, they all had a sticker on them that said madein Japan, as we made nuttin in this cuntry like that back then. Many places, ours inclued used to peal off that sticke3r, then those sneaky Japanese bastards started embossing into the plastic case Made in Japan. Never remember selling one to any veteran of any conflict or war back then either..

Our flag has rode the porch poll for over 10yrs. We like to sit out on the front porch on weekend mornings with our coffee. At 8am everyday, the Marine base at the end of the street does the national anthem. We always stand and face our flag. This weekend the 2yr old Grandson was with us and we started his lessons then.
When the NASCAR race started Sunday afternoon the Grandson heard the singer start the anthem and hollered "Grandpaw, the flag, the stars... the stars". He ran to the front window and about ripped down his Grandmothers drapes... :amflag:

A proud moment indeed. God Bless.

Jocko,

I am still around, I read the forum nearly every day but I have not posting as much as I am so damn busy at work that I just do not have much free time.

Is that taking pics? Looks like a long lens in your avatar. My son's into landscapes and storms, but no time for that for a while.

I taught the kids to raise it in the morning, take it down at sunset (no flood lights) and fold it properly. I fly it most of the summer and weekends, and make a big fuss about it when my part-time, liberal neighbors show up from Seattle.

Yes that is a Sigma 300-800mm lens in my avatar, Nature and landscape Photography is my passion but not my work. I am a Tool Development Manager for an OEM supplier to all of the auto companies and we have been extremely busy for the past 2 years. I am actually on a well deserved 2 weeks vacation right now taking photos in WV, TN and NC.

Took my grandson to Lowes and bought a flag kit (2.5x4') and installed it myself today. It was rainy and windy the day he was here so I put it up on this beautiful sunny day, and caught hell for it as I figured I would. Not for the flag but for climbing the ladder to put it up.

I had made sure it was a solid setup and figured if those guys on the island could stand on a bloody hill and raise Old Glory I should be able to do my little flag in my safe neighborhood. It's up looks beautiful and I'm no worse for it. Pretty good day in all I say.

that's cool..... glad you had no mishaps along the way. Mrs surv and I have been considering putting two equal height flagpoles in our yard (it's considered proper here in the (former) Republic of Texas) to fly the Stars and Stripes and the Lone Star flags together.

About 5 yrs ago we drove from Kansas to Maine and then down to Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. The single strong memory of that trip was I remarked at the time and don't remember seeing any overpass without the Red, While and Blue on a 1/2 circle fan hanging over the traffic. When I got home I ordered one and it's been hanging from my house roof edge ever since. I live in predominantly Mexican neighborhood and the only flag I see daily, including holidays, is mine and the neighbor across the street. If I had a yard without trees I would have a flag on a pole daily.

Gob Bless America.

Fly mine on special US holidays and historical days...

Very few in the neighborhood do, but we are overrun by transplanted Californians & immigrants.

I also fly my Lone Star flag on special dates in Texas history - except for October 2nd, which commemorates the Battle of Gonzales - the first shots of the Texas Revolution in 1835.... that date requires display of a very special Texas flag:

I just returned from errands and stopped to watch my flag wave in the little breeze. It occurred to me that the Star Bangled Banner was written by the "rockets red glare" and that "the flag was still there." We are going through perilous times but our flags are still there. It gives me hope for the future knowing in my heart that the flag will still be there. This may be corny as hell but you know I speak what is on my mind.

If you really do, PM me a mailing address and I'll send you one.

You gotta supply your own flag pole, though.

The quote is also on my Colt Texas Sesquicentennial .45 backstrap:

Here is the thumbnail history of the "battle".

And here is the very interesting story of the 20th century rediscovery of the actual cannon:

In front of our home our flag fly's with a light on it 24/7, and 91% of our neighbors fly there's as well. It's a little different here, we are the youngest in the neighborhood 59 and 65. Our neighbors all remember the real America. We were here less than a week and were asked where's your flag!!!!! Our kind of place!!!! The only reason ours wasn't up yet is that we were waiting on special mounting brackets (we are in a condo and there are rules on where the flag can be flown).

When we are on the road we have a flag on our 5th wheel, and a light on it at night.

We hope to spend some time in Texas this winter and will definitely pick up a "COME AND TAKE IT FLAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You da man! The link worked after a couple minutes. I was just anxious to look and it did'nt show up at first. Read the whole thing.

Now I kind of got the hankering to have a cannon next to my soon to be erected flag pole. I'd like that one but I'm sure they'd give me the Come and Take It message. I'll be fine with a replica.

If I'm not around as much for the next few days, it's cause I'm setting down by the mail box. Don't think my wi fi will go that far.

Jocko, wi fi is like cable with out no wires, just sayin.

Maybe Jocko can send me a bottle of them blue pills, I'll bury a stick in the ground where I want it and dump them pills with a little water and in no time I should have me a nice 40ft pole. By doggie, I think we got us one of them thar plans.
