View Full Version : Five Guns

I've seen some "Five Guns" videos on the youTuber but don't recall seeing it discussed here.

If you had to limit yourself to five firearms from those you already own, which would you choose and why? For those who own less than 5, it would be great to hear why you chose the one(s) you own.

I really don't have any logical reasoning or strategy for my choices. Mostly these are just my favorites:

Kahr K40 - my EDC and my favorite cartridge.
Browning Hi Power Mark3 40sw - prettiest pistol I own and again in my favorite 40 - turns 40 into marshmallows.
Kahr MK9 - my BUG and my back up cartridge in case I run out of 40.
Ruger 77/357 - only long gun on the list - it shoots 38sp and 357mag. 357 out of a long barrel packs a whollup!
Ruger SP101 357 snubbie - goes with the rifle and 357mag out of a revolver ain't chicken sh!t either.

OK, I showed you mine now show me yours...

Unless you sold a Colt series 70, you kept the good ones. I'm REAL envious of that Ruger 9mm. Only made them for one year if I recall...

I'll have to cheat sorta...there aren't 5 in my collection that I'd keep if I had to limit myself to 5. I'd have to dump all but 3 and then buy 2 to complete the 5, then dump the profit into ammo.

The 2 new guns I'd add would be a second TP9 and an AAC Micro 7 bolt action.

So my final list would be...

1. Kahr TP9 (existing)
2. Kahr TP9
3. CZ P-01 (existing)
4. Magnum Research MLR22AT rifle (existing)
5. AAC Micro 7

If I were to purchase a Colt, a 70 series would be the only one I would purchase. The Ruger's were made from 1972-1988. Ruger refuses to release production records, so you can find dates of mfg., but never prod. numbers. So, it's anyone's guess how many 9mm's were made, especially since they were making the service and security models at the same time, plus, making them for overseas, and the postal service, and the Canadian postal service. I have a 1981 prod. model.........how many were made is anybody's guess. There is one on Gunbroker right now, brand new, but he's asking a mortgage for it.

OK scratch #3 because 9mm is wimpy and replace it with the Para 6.45 with the Bawanna grips. 45 is WAY more fun to shoot and I really could never part with those grips. I don't know what I was thinking with that first list.

I'm with O'Dell on this one.
Just five doesn't seem American to me.
Is this some poorly veiled Obummer rule or something?

Of my arsenal the three guns I carry the most are;
HK P2000SK 357 Sig
HK USP45 Tactical
S&W 342 ti 38 Special

After that things get dicey...
Wouldn't be happy giving up anything really.
I guess for the Zombie Apocalypse;
Bulgarian Арсенал АД SLR-106U 5.56mm Suchka
S&W 629-2 44 Magnum Mountain Gun

K9_Two_Tone

Wow, this is tough. Here are my current choices (with some fudging!):

S&W 686 SSR - .357 mag
Colt Gold Cup - 45ACP
Toss up between Kahr K9 or the CZ 75 Polished Stainless - 9mm (I can't decide, but the CZ will likely win out)
Marlin 1895 SBL - 45-70
Kimber 82 Clackamas - 22LR

I know that's more than 5, but both 9 milimeters are extremely accurate, feel great in the hand, and have never had a FTE or a FTB since I've owned them.

The S&W 686 SSR is amazing. Great trigger with a really crisp letoff, sexy looks, and super accurate. What more could you want?

Both the 45ACP and the 45-70 make big holes. Lot's of fun. The Gold Cup only had ONE FTB in the 25+ years I owned it.

Everyone has to own a 22LR rifle. The Kimber 82 has a fantastic trigger, is a joy to look at, and puts 5 shots into single hole at 50 yards.

Finally, if I was able to include airguns, I would choose the Feinwerkbau 124D - .177 cal. It can easily put 10 shots into a hole smaller than a dime at 25 yards.

That's all for now.

mr surveyor
10-11-2013, 08:17 PM
I didn't think it was a "if you could have only x number of guns" question. I believe it was a "if you could only keep 5 guns" question. As in which five of your current collection would you go down the tubes with.

I think that's a much better way for us old farts to look at it. Most of us have been through quite a few guns in our lives and generally weeded the herd down to the best of the best for our individual tastes. As far as the general "if you could only have k number of guns" that pops up on every gun related forum every 3-6 months .... yep, I agree with the idea that the question is a waste of bandwidth. This weren't the same question.

How about 5 categories (each member of the family needs these):
1. Concealment pistols (various sizes depending on dress.)
2. Full size high capacity pistols
3. .22 rifles
4. AR-15 w/ 30 round mags
5. M1A like CJB said or some other semi auto .308
