New wardrobe for my Uberti 45 Colt

Just got another Mernickle holster today. This one for my single action Uberti Colt look alike.

The fit and finish are perfect, I'm impressed as usual with their holsters.

Now even this wheelchair cowboy wannabe can play cowboy. I plan to rotate this into my everyday wardrobe from time to time. Remember my roots if you will.

You'll have to excuse me, all I could find was some fat guy for a model. I couldn't very well take pictures of myself.

Also it looks like it hits the clothing guard but there's actually space there, not a lot and a bit of adjustment forward or back should help that. Standing up would be a sure cure but not an option YET.

And I can't help but notice that the holster doesn't cover the trigger or trigger guard, but I guess that's not necessary with that kind of gun.

Am I reading that holster right that it can be used in a cross-draw manner?

Yes, I haven't even tried it in the cross draw mode but suspect it will work good. I'm gonna try it. For many years I wore my 1911 cross draw. I was working in a tool warehouse and it was just less in the way there. Plus they really didn't want me carrying it and always felt me up on my right side.
Dozens of times and never caught me.

And AIRret, it's a single action so the hammer has to be pulled back each shot. Some say it's slow but I don't think so at all.

Any revolver that has a hammer I usually pull it back, very seldom double action them. I was born a 100 years too late I think.

That's ok, Bawanna. I was more than happy to sit in for you while you took those photo's. I owe my physique to Mrs. Muggsy's fine cooking. My old man always said that a good mechanic keeps his tools under a roof. Nothin to be ashamed of here. (There will be a nominal charge for pulling your chestnuts out of the fire.)

Good eye Greg. Those plates are usually just plastic. After a few years they crack. I had them taped together and glued popsicle sticks and duct tape to patch them up. Finally got tired of it so was gonna order some new ones.
They wanted around 70 bucks for the two flat pieces of plastic with a piece of metal riveted on.
I thought I can do that myself. Had that diamond plate laying around and an hour or so later I rolled out of the pits back onto the track.

Medical stuff like wheelchairs they rip you off soooooo bad.

The power chair for some reason eats batteries. Got to where it wouldn't make it thru a full day. Something ain't right and I haven't figured it out yet.

My big power chair has batteries probably 4 or 5 years old and will go for days but it's just too big to run inside.

The manual is good exercise, about all I get. The power is sure nice carrying stuff around though, cup of coffee, glass of scotch, a rifle etc. Challenging in a manual where you need both hands or you end up rowing a boat with one oar.

AJbert, I don't think you could do better for your Blackhawk. They are good folks, Bob and Sherrie and its top notch stuff. You being a stand upper, you might consider the mid ride. I like the high to keep away from the wheels.

Those are stock grips. I've thought about making some but these feel really nice in hand and they are the one piece style. I'll probably make a set some day.
I did full checker a set of Blackhawk grips. Amazed myself how well they turned out, kind of a challenge to keep everything straight and true of curves like that but it turned out nice.

That being said the Blackhawk is best with smooth grips so you can let it roll in your hand. Checkering or stag etc that is too course is tough on your hand.

I learned a little about single action revolvers the summer of 2012. We were lucky enough to travel through Wy and stop at the Bill Cody's museum (in Cody, Wy)......which has a hugh hugh hugh gun collection!!!!!!!!! We spent 8 hours in the gun section alone... we skipped lunch and still didn't see all the guns!
Anyway, I learned a good little bit about single action revolvers from an army Veteran that volunteers there.
If any of you have the opportunity you have to see the place, it's a gun nuts dream!
That same summer we visited "John Browning's" museum in Ogden, UT.
Again another amazing place! John Browning was a very creative individual...
his thought process was interesting, I wish I could recall it in more detail. I
think I made some notes after that visit.....if anyone is interested I'll try to look for the information on his creative process.

To say the least it was a great summer.

I was there 3 years ago. Took my daughter to school over in Powell, north of Cody. Wife had been there the year before and knew I would be done for the day so she dropped me off when they opened and said she'd pick me up when they closed. Said to call if I was ready to leave earlier but didn't expect to hear from me.

I was there the full day, stopped for about 10 minutes for a muffin and a coffee and otherwise looked at guns. I made one lap through the main floor and thought awesome I have time to go again but then saw a sign that said there were about the same amount of guns to look at downstairs, I think there was even more.

There's actually 5 museums, I spent all day in the guns and about 45 minutes in Cody's own museum part, and 10 minutes in the gift shop.

If your visiting I'd highly recommend at least 3 days to really take it all in. I tried to get a job there after I got home doing anything, mopping the floors, anything at all.
Nearly got hired at Ballard Rifle Company which was a few blocks away. Wife took some of my grips when she visited daughter and we talked about checkering their rifle stocks. They wanted to send them to me, I wanted to move and work there. Never gelled and they went out of business a few years later.

That was a great tour too. Got to visit with each phase, lots of fun.

We were there for 3 DAYS it was (as you know) unbelievable!!!!!
Did you see the DVD about "Herb Parsons". WOW..WOW...WOW!!!!!!!!
It was hard to believe what he was able to do!!
All of it was great, but I was TOTALLY blown away when I saw him shoot the 22 and then shoot the brass ejecting from the GUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was knocked over the moment I walked down the hall at the entrance to the gun part and saw all the Bonanza guns in a beautiful glass display along with their leather and photo's.
Had I not been in a wheelchair, they probably could have mopped me up off the floor like the drool I was.

I did indeed watch the mentioned video. Another highlight was 6 chrome plated M1 Garands on a display rack. Several prototype clip fed garands and full auto prototypes.

It was just wham after wham after wham. And you know I never saw a single finger print on any of the glass cases, not a speck of dust, not a mark on the floor.
Each case was climate controlled and I bet they hardly ever touch those guns. That was my thought, I could do nothing but clean and lube display guns but they probably wouldn't let me touch them.

It really is something to see and I sure hope to get there again some day.

Perhaps it's a good thing that we are talking about the "Cody Museum" then maybe those on this forum who travel near that area will be lucky enough to have a similar experience!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Were you there in the summer time when they have the shoot out on the side street every evening. Pretty cool little show. Even had one of the saloon girls set on my lap for awhile, got a picture of it someplace. Cute gal and she smelled good too. Probably too much information.

They also have a good rodeo every night all summer long in Cody too. Nothing podunk either, good rodeo Enjoyed it immensely.

No, we were there early in Oct. we missed all the shoot outs and rodeo.

However, when I was stationed in Cheyenne, WY I saw many shoot out shows down town
and got to the rodeo every summer during Frontier days.

I keep calling it the "Cody museum" when it's actually the Buffalo Bill museum....brain fart!

Yes......definitely! Lots to see and do, and WY is a wonderful gun loving State.

There is also a well know meat store in that town (I can't remember the name) that processes their own locally raised beef that is out of this world. The meat is just a little bit more than you would pay at a regular grocery store but it is well worth it. We treated ourselves to a couple of steaks and then bought 10, 1 pound packages of frozen (and very well sealed...no air allowed) ground beef. We ate on that for months and it is still the best hamburger meat I have ever had!! You would never know it was frozen....the best!!
When we go back (not if) that meat store is on our list right after another trip to the museum!
