View Full Version : CW9 Mag Followers

Took the CW9 to the range yesterday. Put three mags through, reloaded, and started again. First mag fine, ejected, slammed the new one home, 7 rounds through, ejected, and the mag didn't drop. Was in too much of a rhythm to pause much more than to help the mag out and put the third one and keep firing.
Two rounds into the mag the slide locks back. Failure to feed, first one since I've purchased the pistol. I pulled the slide back and the round fed and so did the other 5 just fine, but again when I ejected the mag it wouldn't drop and needed my help to pull it out.
I eyed this mag and the previous mag a little closet and noticed a rattling sound coming from the interior, and then noticed the front of the follower (now at the top of the empty mag) looked different than I remembered it - the top of the spring was now visible. I compared it to the third mag that had fired fine and the spring was not visible.
Back home I disassembled the two gimmicky mags and sure enough, the fronts of the followers (I am assuming the front guide) were busted off cleanly in the exact same place on both mags.
This is the third time total that I have been to the range with this pistol and these mags, and have put exactly 368 rounds through it. Anyone else experience this issue, and what did you do, if you talked to Kahr were they any help? The followers on the Kahr website (Part No. 039CW9) are $11.00 a pop, seems a little excessive but maybe that's what I'll have to do.
(also if anyone can help a forum newbie figure out how to post photos, I have photos of the busted followers but apparently I'm inept)

I'll post the photos for you. You need to have at least 30 posts before you are allowed to post photos.

You're in good company. There are frequent reports of this problem. The solution appears to be to shorten the feedramp so the follower does not impact the ramp.
Some folks send the pistol back to Kahr to have this done. Others prefer to fix it on their own. Either way, Kahr will replace the broken followers. It's a problem they are very familiar with.

Yup... Broken followers seems to be another problem these pistols have every so often (besides the nose dive issue). I just got my CM9 back from Kahr, and it appears they fixed it (at least so far so good).

Any way you look at it its a feed ramp striking the flower on some handguns. Not a follower problem on its own. Call Kahr tell them about it, have them send you a label and let them grind a little off the feed ramp and polish it and all will be good to go. Or do it your self.

Contact www.magguts.com (http://www.magguts.com) and tell them that you'd like them to build the conversion to metal mag followers for your Kahr. The more people that tell them, the more likely that they will take a look at Kahr. Perhaps Kahr will do the same if a 3rd party competitor solves their problem for them...or perhaps they will use the product from magguts. ???

nice photos, but I guess my point is : the feed ramp should not be making contact with the followers of ANY MAGAZINE IN ANY GUN. I think wearefixing the end result of what is being caused buy sumpin that is not the followers fault. It might work OK but it might not either, Weknow if the rampectmy is done then this issue goes away.
Kahr will get this straightened out.It seems to me that of late, we have had less of this happening to.....

Not something I have the tools or ability right now to do on my own - for those of you who have had Kahr do this, is it expensive? Does it take a long time?
Or if I just have them replace the broken followers will they take care of it or charge me up the wazoo?
Sorry about all the questions - never had this issue before and want to get all the info I can.
Thanks for all your help.

if uhave followers bein broken, have kahr send u a pre paid pickup n ur gun and let them do the ramp job. It willbe odne right and warranted. It should cost u nadda. I always suggest u give your gun two broken followers before askingthem to takeit back. One broken folloer, they will send u a new one and sometimes this issue goes away on its own. why I cannot expalin but my PMJ9 broke one follower in over 32K rounds and it never occured again.

Thanks Jocko, guess that is what I will do, since it is two followers busted that I've got. Not thrilled about being without my carry for however long it's gone, but need to get it fixed and not have this problem again. Appreciate the advice. I will be calling Kahr today.

Called Kahr, initially they were not going to send me a label until I made a stink about it. Label is on the way. Were vague about expenses but I guess I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

roy glad you got your pistol heading in for some tlc.Sorry for a late reply. Some times I only check in once a day. Besides with other season shooters here all answers will be covered well.
Kahr will do right by you and it is not good you have to fight to send it in some times. This problem should not happen but it does from time to tie. Maybe during break in a couple th's of wiggle develop to cause this problem. I have been lucky , so far no issues with my 3 kahrs.
