Well I finally took the Kahr plunge. I was looking over guns for a new pocket gum other than my BG380. I wanted a 9mm, I was thinking about the diamondback db9, Kahr PM9 and the CW9. After looking for a very long time I finally ended up buying a Glock 26 that I love very much. But when I was buying the G26 I saw a CW45 in the display case. I went home and thought about it for a couple of day's and then went back to pick it up. I really like the way it feels in you're hand and it fits the pocket nicely. I have not shot it yet but will really soon. The only thing I am very apprehensive about it is that the plastic guide rails. I know that there are also metal in the lower of the dust cove but the plastic rails just worry me. I have been feels the trigger pull and the trigger is great on this pistol but if I hold the trigger back and start pulling the slide back it catches really bad for the first quarter inch. It just does not operate smoothly until you get past that first initial 1/4 to 1/2" pull of the slide, you can hear something catch towards the back of the slide. After that 1/2" or so it is very smooth the rest of the way back. Everything seams to function all right but something does not feel right on that 1st half inch. If I do not hold the trigger down the slide is very smooth. Does all the Kahrs do this as far as the CW series goes ? This is my first Kahr and first post.

Don't worry, and go shoot it. The rails are metal where they need to be and are no issue at all. Kahrs smooth out very nicely with some rounds down range. If you go shoot it I'm sure you will report back with a big smile on your face.
BTW, welcome. I'm sure you will love your new kahr.

It is the barrel lug, nothing to worry about. Shoot the hell out of it. These guns aren't made any cheaper than any other. It has metal rails like any other. Go put several hundred through it and report back.
Follow the lube diagram on this forum.

My CW45 used to do that when it was new in the box, after a good cleaning, some grease on the rails and some firing, it's all good now.
Be sure to do the prep sticky listed in the tech before your first shoot. Sweet guns if treated properly.

Welcome to the forum :)
I have the CW45 and have shot many rounds through it. It is a smooth and excellent gun with mild recoil for it's size. What you are describing is perfectly normal. The slide rides on the front rails in the dust cover (the notch is normal by the way) and the metal on the back of the frame. The plastic rail is just an aid for installing the slide. Doesn't really serve a function other than that.

This will get you geared up for the first range trip. For the CW45 run it well lubed the first time out and keep a firm grip. Use factory fresh ammo and not reloads in the beginning if possible. After that run as normal and you shouldn't have any problems. Use the slide release to chamber the first round until it gets broke in well.
Let us know if you have any problems. To quote our resident eternal newby Jocko "Shoot it like you stole it. Just sayin..."
Have fun.

Thanks fella's really appreciate the response. I will shoot it in the next week or so. Wife in the Hospital and working almost 70 hrs. a week right now. It really does feel good in the hand, one thing for sure it has one excellent trigger. I cleaned it and oiled and greased it where needed. Now I just need to get some time. It's nice to have a 45 again. I traded my Remington R1S in for a S&W 9 FS because the R1s just sat in the safe. I really like a 45 it is my favorite round and this CW45 can be carried in my pocket and just feels better in my hand.
One thing I did do after reading the sticky and you guy's suggestion was look at my magazine again. When I loaded it the first couple of times the follower was getting stuck at the bottom of the magazine. I took it apart and I do believe it was in the wrong way. So thanks for the sticky also.:amflag:
