New to the Kahr and this forum

Yesterday I picked up a new CM9. This is my first Kahr and going into it I was a little concerned that it wasn't going to be reliable. I also have a S&W M&P9 and a M&P40c. I needed something smaller. There are a few that I was looking at (shield, LC9, Nano, CM9). I went for small, the CM9. After a good clean http://kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1521 and Froglube treatment, I headed to the range. I ran some Winchester white box, Remington green box, Tulammo, Freedon Munitions ammo. No issues till the 220th round, FTF, it pinched the casing to the point that the bullet almost popped off. An easy clear and I shot another 30 rounds without issue.

I was a little concerned that the small size, and my large hands, might be a slight issue. Other than the backstrap checking slightly irritating the palm and my pinky (on the shooting hand) wrapping around and rubbing on the sharp rear edge of the magazine. I may need to find a couple of remedies for these small issues.

For the size, it shoots awesome and not bad recoil. My first grouping was exceptionally tight.

Unless you routinely shoot $75 worth of ammo every time you go to the range, you really won't need to worry about the grip chewing up your hand. I shoot between 50-100 rounds at a shot and don't have any problems with the grip.

So true. It was more of noticing that it was there and that was at about 150-200 rounds. This was a break in session and I needed to get a couple hundred shots in.

If you find you do need to cover the grip a bit I would try the bicycle inner tube. On my cw45 I used a quik grip, but on my cw40 I used a piece of a 1.75" inner tube and it worked fine.

It is a pretty cheap thing to try even more so if already have an old tube laying around or know a local bike repair shop to grab a popped tube from. I just cut it to size then turn it inside out (to put the tube seams to the inside) and pulled it on.

CM9 is a great little gun. I did add the Pierce magazine extensions and rubber talon grip. Would recommend them highly. Hope you have good luck with yours as I have mine.

My 21 cents on this: with such a perfect range shoot, I would say you had a bad round in the first place. Some of those brands u mentioned are new to me. Tulammo ammo would not be my choice. I would suggest sticking if u can to good ol American brand ammo. WWB should be good ammo to shoot. Wal mart sells it and from there ist is about as low a priced ammo thatyou will ever find. That is about all that I ever shoot for range fodder.

Welcome CJCM9, from another CM9 owner. If my experience is any indicator, you are gonna love that gun.

When these guns are new they are very tight. I don't recommend shooting more that 100 rounds between cleanings. Poor quality dirty ammo is the cause of many FTF. Glad to hear that your problems were few.

I needed to get the 200 break in rounds in. I also wanted to see the worst case scenario with basic and low end FMJ ammo. I bought the Tula when ammo was scarce. It definitely is low end. It's good to see that even when new and tight, it would shoot anything I ran thru it.

Out of the box, there was this hitch in the slide. I could actually walk the slide forward and have it catch part of the way open. It wont catch and stay open any more but I do still feel a slight hitch. I think it's when the barrel drops down when the slide is coming back (by hand).

I also noticed that the firing pin stays out. You can see it when you lock the slide back, after the trigger is pulled. It is reset (back in) when the slide comes forward (about 3/4ths of the way). It does this consistently so can I assume that this is normal?

Both conditions are normal. The slight hitch that you feel is the striker partially loading.

Glad you have had good luck with your new CM9. I recently purchased one myself and am really happy with it. I have put 150 flawless rounds through it thus far. My wife has an LC9, brother in law has a Nano and I previously had a Shield. For me the CM9 comes out on top.

I have a Springfield XDs I need to send in for a recall but wanted a small carry gun while it's away. I'm hoping I fall in love with the CM9 and it becomes my primary carry gun.

go slowly to, even200 rounds is alot for the shooter, not thegun. The rush to getto 200 to say it is broken in is just a number. at best shoot 50 rounds and take a break, give the shooter some rest. this is a very small and very light gun and in shooter exciteme3nt, one tend sto get tired and not know it and then sh!t happens that tyhe gun gets blamed for. I would suggest taking no more than 200 rounds, leave the rewsrt home, IMO I would even suggest takinga a 100 runds and enjoying the shoot. Ifit goes well at 100 it willgo just as well at 200, 300 etc. Do some readinon this forum in the kahr tech secrtion about the great lube chart, the propper prepping threadand wyns new member thread. Some pre prepp on ur gun will only make that first shoot even better and also give you some knowledgeof the gun itself. That is a really nice gun.

Good advice from Jocko.

Ammo is not cheap. Make the most of your training. The goal is not to sling 200 rounds downrange, but to use the break-in period as an opportunity to become proficient with your new weapon. Take your time. Well-aimed shots. Get used to the long trigger pull being careful to maintain sight-alignment and sight-picture. Follow-through.

Thanks, Jocko. Yes, after re-thinking, I may not shoot that much. I just remember it's easy to loose track of how much I've shot sometimes. Between the Glock 19 and the XDs 9, I've shot 400 rounds in one range visit....outside shooting steel the first time. Pretty exciting when you've been shooting paper for while. I usually spend a lot of time shooting strong and weak hand so it just takes a lot of rounds to do my "workouts."

I did go through the tech section and spent a good bit of time over the last two nights cleaning the gun as instructed and also all the mags (lots of "motor oil" in the mags). Was a little nervous spraying the Brakleen in the striker channel but I could tell it seems like a good cleaner.

Have been racking the slide a lot to break in that tight spring a little.

Shot 250 rounds through the new CM9 and had no failures whatsoever! It felt really great. The long trigger feels different compared to the XDs and Glock, but not objectionable. The break is smooth. I'm glad I found a great carry gun while my XDs is in for the recall. In fact, I'm sure the CM9 will be my primary carry gun. Love the size.

Apologize - posted in wrong sub forum - this is a repost. I'm new to the forum. I purchased CM40 early 2013. The pistol was returned to factory for several reasons - mag followers chipping and breaking off; FTE, FTF, slide failure to close completely. Wanted to throw in trash! Factory support was very good (impressive). Returned gun new mags or followers. Shot over 500 rounds - still experience slide failure to completely close occasionally. Deciding to trade at nearest gun show along with custom pocket holster. My Glock 27 had a hiccup ever now and then - but I would trust my life with it - I'm scared I would loose if I trusted my life with this particular CM40.

Please recommend preferred ammo. Want to try one last time. I like the pistol ergonomics and the USA manufacture. It has to be reliable.

how about trying this: go to gunsprings.com . that is wolffs recoil and magh springs site. and order #52820 20.5# outter recoil springs for your cm40. This is shown under the PM9 and PM40 site. It is heavier than your factory springs now, and it might just take care of that issue.

I would also advise you to let anutter shooter try ur gun to. If he can duplicate the issue, then we can assume it is gun related. If he cannot, then you have to see what maybe ur doing wrong. Shooter error is a possable, and allur doing is eliminateng the possabilities.

I really think maybe the 20.5# spring swill help this issue. U have nuttin to loose excpet mabe a week or so getting the springs in. It will comewith a new striker spring in the sprig kit,just don't mess with that at all. as that has nutting to do with whatur experiencing. or do u need to even change it.

If u do order this, then there are two things I would suggest u doin whilewiating on the part.

Repolish the feed ramp with some flitz and or 600+ grit paper, and also under the feed lips of your magqazines. It might feel good but therecould be a slight burr there causing some restriction. Again ur not huring a darn thing by either. Might not help either but, it won't hurt.. Alittle polsihing behind the extractor would be helpful also.

How good are u mechanically ??? Do u liketotinker with things and see what makes um go???:amflag:

I had the same problem with an STI. The solution there was a new barrel as the chamber was slightly undersized. You might try polishing the chamber and see if that allows it to go completely into battery along with a heavier recoil spring.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will order the springs and polish the feed ramp - I do like to tinker - cleaning and caring for my weapons is a great way to pass the time. It's just aggravating - I'm familiar with finicky ammo - I have a Seecamp that shoots one and only one type of ammo flawlessly. I'm going to go broke testing all the various 40 caliber, but I do like the gun and will try the two things you mentioned.
