Wife said her CW40 is too much for her and likes a friend's S&W M&P Shield. So, being a good husband I obliged her and got one. Also used the opportunity to get approval to buy my own S&W M&P 40 Pro with the 5" barrel. Range report on that one to follow.

Very pleased with the Shield. Was prepared to fire 200 rounds for break in but had zero issues so stopped at 65. Prep was normal cleaning and lube (gun grease vice oil where metal slides on metal). All shots were rapid fire since this is a concealed carry pistol.

I think it kicks nearly as much as my CW40, but if she's happy, I'm ecstatic. Plus now I have two CW40s for me. :)

i would think she would notice a big difference in the 9mm over the 40 cal, especially in the lightweight karh. U did well. a 40 in a poly kahr is a handfull for many guys even. my hands are kinda "sheepish; no pun intended Just sayin

Took mine to the range a couple of times last week. I forgot what a nice gun it is to shoot. Congrats and good luck.

Could see how she might think a lightweight cw40 is more than she might want to shoot. The snap of the 40 in that size takes some practice (and the desire) to get used to it. My wife had no problem shooting the g23 g4, but it's a few ounces heavier with a longer slide so that takes a little bit out of it. She has not tried the cw40 yet so will see how that goes when she eventually tries it.

I wonder if the felt recoil comparison you make may have more to do with the width of grip on the shield? I found the shield felt "narrower" to me than the cw and add in that slide safety is probably why I never got a shield for myself. Just measured the shield blue gun I have and it comes in at 0.84" where the web of my hand is on the grip and 0.93 on the cw40.

Hope she continues to find her 9mm a little more enjoyable to shoot.
