As the title says, does anyone have experience good or bad with the El Paso Saddlery Horsehide pocket holster?

It looks good, but would like some "real world" opinions.

I have a western rig made by them. High quality all the way. I would expect the same of all their leather holsters.

I've heard that they ship the heads directly to Jocko, so they can't be all bad.

they indeed do and they ship really good heads to. I think one of their employees is named Monica, so she knows what a good head should look like. Just sayin

I don't have one but El Paso has a great reputation. They are mentioned frequently by gun writers and always have positive comments.

I have to admit I didn't know they even made a pocket holster.

I bought one of these new from EP for a J frame S&W revolver. It was NOISY, creaked like an old wooden staircase. I ended up giving it to a friend, and he didn't like it either.

There wasn't any real molding so retention was non-existent.

That is certainly something to consider. This is exactly the kind of feedback that is helpful. Thanks!

My pleasure. Yeah for the money there are infinitely better options out there.

You didn't mention what type of gun it is for, but I'm assuming it's for a Khar. TT Gunleather makes a terrific pocket holster for about $60. Great retention, does not print, no noise, keeps the gun perfectly oriented in the pocket, etc. I just ordered a new P380 and will be ordering from TT again very soon.

Yes, CM9. I do appreciate the advice. I did however order one prior to you posting. If I can live with it, fine. If not, I'll put it in a drawer with the other holsters I don't use.

Ahh I see. It would be a better holster with the rough sides in, so if it squeeks/creaks too much for your liking, maybe you could remove the stitching and put the rough sides in. That might improve retention too.

Not sure I am worried about retention. I want it to come out of the holster very easy. I wear cargo pants most of the time. Large pockets. I just want to keep it in the proper position. Not turn around, upside down, etc. The negative I am coming away with is the creaking leather.

I suspect I am going to have to look at this horse's teeth before I totally understand what you are telling me.

The noise is due to the horsehide. It will do that. It's a superior leather compared to your standard cowhide giving you a MUCH smoother draw and less holster wear on your gun over time. I have a couple horsehide holsters and they all creak a little but it doesn't bother me at all as I don't spend much time in a monastery. If it bothers you that bad, you could find a lined cowhide holster, which will also give you a very smooth draw. I personally still prefer the horse. I'm a leather craftsman and my experience with horse is that it's the way to go all day.

I have 1 as a pocket holster for my MK9/CM9 and it works great in all my pockets. The rough side out is an advantage for retension of the holster in your pocket when you draw the gun.

It came in a couple of days ago. So far so good. As you would expect, not much to it. What is there is well made. I've only carried it in my pocket a couple of times. I will give a better report after carrying it longer.

I don't have a pocket holster from them but I do have two magazine pouches made by them and they are both extremely high quality.

As promised here is my report two months later. I purchased this off of an auction site for a little under $40 shipped. It is of good quality. The smooth side in is nice. The rough side out does not help in retention in my big cargo type pockets.

After two months of carry, the CM-9 still fits tight in the holster. When drawing the weapon, I put my fingers on the handle and my thumb on the side of the holster. It draws easy enough this way. There is a projection of the holster above the slide that keeps it in the pocket.

This EPS pocket holster is the only one I have owned for what it's worth. I have nothing to compare it to. I feel I got my money's worth.
