View Full Version : New Kahr P380, that's it I'm done

I'm done listening to all the Kahr bashers on this form! I have been in the market for a pocket pistol. I have tried the Sig 238, didn't like the safety, shot the S&W BodyGuard, hated the laser and I wasn't very accurate with it. Shot the Ruger, its just too ugly for me. I wanted to buy the Kahr but couldn't find a place that rents it. So, despite all the Kahr bashing regarding the break-in, I decided to blindly buy a pistol that I have never even held in my hand. I picked up my Kahr at the FFL, went thru the "Stickies" in the newbie section. Jocko and Johnh great posts for us newbies, well done! Did the recommended "prep" and "lube", racked the slide a few hundred times by hand. I went to the range this morning with 200 rounds of PMC 95 grain ball ammo. WOW, not 1 issue, gun was flawless, and surprisingly accurate. I love this gun. I would say the only slight issue I have with my new P380 is that I shoot with a thumbs forward grip and sometimes on my last round my thumb is pressing against the slide release, hence the slide doesn't stay open on the last round. I have the same issue with Sig's. Anyway, this is my first real post on this form, I give the P380 the thumbs up!

Nice gamble, I had the same experience when a friend of mine bought a P380 that was used. He shot it a couple of times and had issues. I took a look at it, found these forums and worked it over ala Jocko and the others well heeled advice, bingo! Dead nuts reliable for the next 400+ rounds so far. All pistols can have shooter induced errors, even a Glock will choke if you keep your thumbs behind the slide when you depress the trigger. Of course the immediate cause and effect lesson of pain will prevent that a second time..... The problem lies in the four levels of learning: unconsciously incompetent, consciously incompetent, consciously competent and unconsciously competent. WAY too many of us believe we are the last when we are still on the second one.... Top that off with mass production and stacked tolerances being an occasion that even a quality maker has to deal with, no one likes to admit they are wrong.... I am glad you took the gamble and did not allow someone else to make a choice for you. I have been hooked on the Kahrs now for a while, and am currently saving for a P380 myself due to my experience with the friends. Good luck and good shooting!
PS if you want to train your thumbs not to hover on the slide stop, put a bit of skateboard tape on the slide stop before your next range session....the scuffing it gives you will cure that thumb from riding the lever....

Jocko,
I have to say, this is one of the most helpful forums I have ever joined. I know it is not all your knowledge, but as such a prolific poster, you are going to get credit for stuff you didn't even write.... Looks like your outta luck with me, most of my checks are under $5 anyway, so I will not trouble you with the trip to the bank... I feel for Bawanna having your address, his back must be killing him from the UPS ammo drop offs.... It aint love, more like respect...

Congratulations on your good experiences with your .380's. Being as they're relatively new to Kahr's line, it's good to hear some positive feedback.
As for jocko getting credit for anything ... he'll never get credit for his typing ... apart from perhaps a passing grade for effort ... just saying.

I too have fondled and fired my Wife's P380 into one needing one for pocket carry. A P380 and not the CW.

I am interested in the CW version as well, but feel the market for P380's will be better after the CW's start shipping in numbers... I also like how easy it is to change the sights on the P380 compared to the pinned CW, and the fact no one has replacements for the CW sights yet... But if the price is right on the CW, that can change things as well, two CW's for just a bit more than a P380 is very tempting....

I considered the CW380 as well, but I thought the 3 mag's, the sights, non-mim slide release was worth the extra $. The rifling difference between the CW an P380 barrels didn't really make a difference to me. I paid $530 all-in for my P380. I thought that was a fair price.

I can't believe what I just read, The guy make a couple of lucky guesses and now he's a firearms expert. I'm surprised Kahr Arms isn't giving him a stipend. To whom it may concern, I'll be taking up a collection to buy Jocko a new motorcycle helmet, since his head is now two sizes too large for his old one. Let it not be said that Muggsy is not a caring individual.
