I've had a PM9 for almost five yrs, and have put about 2k rds through it. Bought it new in Sep 2005. It has a VB80XX serial number, outside the range of serial numbers in the recall. Last month I noticed that the barrel was peening, that the access panel on the frame was missing its pin/screw, and that the mag catch seemed to allow more vertical movement of seated mags than I had previously remembered.
I called Kahr, and described the problem, and their rep recommended sending in the gun. I requested a Return Authorization using the link on the Kahr website, and the next day received my RA # via email. On May 3rd, I typed up a nice detailed letter specifying the issues, and took it and the gun in its original box to a local gunsmith for shipping back to Kahr.
On May 11th, the gun was back in my hands. Kahr's worksheet stated that they had replaced the slide and barrel, the panel, and the mag catch, then lubed it, and test fired it. After examining the gun, I now believe that they also replaced the recoil spring assembly (it had about 1k rds on it) and the extractor (IIRC the original extractor was black, the one in the gun now appears to be bare stainless). My guess is that they replaced the entire top end. Before I sent it in, racking the slide was rough and the slide had a tendency to stop about a quarter to half an inch before going back into battery. Now it's very smooth with no hesitation at all in its slide movement. The replacement mag catch appears to be an all-metal part instead of the polymer and metal part that it originally came with.
Took it to the range yesterday and put 118 rds of Winchester USA 115 gr FMJ through it using my 3 6rd mags and my one 7rd mag. Had no malfunctions of any kind.
Kahr fixed my gun very quickly, and based on yesterday's shooting results, they fixed it right. This is my one and only experience with Kahr repairing a gun, and I'm impressed.
