Hey all, new guy here, which knows very little about firearms. So I apologize in advance if I ask stupid questions! I just recently bought a Kahr E9 from my uncle. He is a cop and had this gun as his back up for a while, and recently sold it to me. Gun is in awesome condition. He said he may have put two mags through it. Gun just has some holster wear. Anyway, yesterday I was out shooting it, and all of the sudden, the trigger wouldnt reset itself all the way. I finally figured out that if I pushed the trigger forward before pulling it, it would fire fine. I assume this would be the trigger spring needing replaced? For an un-experienced person like myself, would this be something I could fix or would you suggest dropping it at the local gun shop for repair? I am very mechanically inclined, just very new to firearms. Not real sure what caused this...it just started happening after about three clips. Thank you for any input.

Like you I'm fairly new to guns (7 mos.) and I also have an E9 (which I like very much). But I've not come across that problem, so I'll have to let the experts weigh in in your question.

My first suggestions would be to give it a detailed cleaning.
While doing this, pull the grips off and check that the extractor side grip is not interfering with the trigger bar or trigger bar spring. Check that the trigger bar spring is installed properly.
Here's a properly installed spring (photo courtesy of Bawanna):

With the slide off, insert a magazine and check that it doesn't interfere with the trigger bar or it's spring.
Trigger spring:
If it is your problem, you might consider sending it back to Kahr for repair.
It is possible to change DIY, but the trigger pivot pin can be stubborn to remove. The installation is a little cumbersome as well.
If you do go this route, order the K9 Elite trigger spring and trigger spacer.

gregg: I was under the impression that the trigger bar and trigger bar spring on the E9 was totally dfferent than the present K models. Am I dreamin or what. Your photo looks like my K9 model, but is this photo an actual E9 model also.
I wold definitley agree that this gun shold be througfhlyt cleaned before panicking. If it has been around this long, more than likely it has not be cleaned in that amoun t of time either. And if there is any caked sh!t in that striker channel. by now it is really packed in there to. I would think complete disassembly of the slide expecialy the striker channel would be the first order of the day..

Good point, there was a different trigger bar and spring on some of the early, non-stepped frame guns, but I think an E9 (or K9) with a later production, non stepped frame or with the stepped frame should have the current set up.
The current K9 elite trigger spring and spacer will work on either frame.
Here's the earlier trigger bar and spring:

I think ur right there, but if u have this very early setup,.I never knew that the current trigger baqr and srping would interchange. Is this right or amI dfreamin. I seem to remember kahr statingthey have no parts for thisone E9 trigger bar anymore.. Not sure what mods they would or could make even to accomadate the newstyle. I have never heard of this bein done either. That early style tribber bar to me actualy loolks like a machinedpeace over the todays current stamped trigger bar. Correct me on that to, as I have never seen onein person to say one way or the utter.

Kahr no longer has any parts for the old style trigger bar spring. They require you to send in your gun for upgrade to the new style.
I believe it requires more than just the trigger bar and spring also. A new trigger and related components are part of the upgrade.

They won't without modifying the older frame.
However, the current trigger spring and trigger spacer will interchange (my apologies for not making that clear earlier).

thank u, I thought it was like that. Slo we really don't know what style of E9 this fella has yet either. He should be able to now evualate by the photos.
Has anbyone heard of this mod being done by kahr even, as to cost etc and what actually is done. By looking at the old vs, the new stuye the trigger bar spring in the new models has a smallchannel that the bottom portion of thge spring sits in, where as I think the old old style does not have this channel at all but just kinda fits in a hole on the frame. Sure looks likke some serious mods would have to be done to changte over, but again I am just guessin to. Thanks GB and Bawanna.
Yeah, I would give it a thorough cleaning, as has been suggested.
It is surprising how dirty a BUG can get, just by carrying it. This is especially true if carried on the ankle. Many guys prefer to carry a revolver as back-up, because it is less likely than a semi-auto to malfunction when dirty.

Many owners to are very reluctant to addressthe striker channel and there in lies the bitg culprit of most light strikers.I would not trust any new semi to have a perfectly clean striker channel

hey all, thank you so much for all of your responses! I have been super busy today, but I will take off the grips and see what mine looks like. I read somewhere that I cannot post pictures until 30 posts, so I wont be able to post any pics. but I REALLY appreciate the pictures posted. hopefully it will shed some light on this situation. I am really glad this happened when I was just target shooting and not when I for some reason really needed the gun for self defense (tons of break ins happening in my area) Thank you again. Give me a bit here, and I will post what I see

Mine looks exactly like this. The only difference that I see, is at the rear of the frame there is a pressed in pin. but doesnt look to be apart of anything. When I cycle the gun with a clip in it, everything looks to be in tact, but the trigger bar ( I assume is what the spring is connected to), sticks a bit until I push the trigger forward. Trigger can be press forward Id say an 1/8 of an inch. Im going to try cleaning all of this and throw some Rem oil on it and see if maybe its just gummed up. Taking off the grips, I could tell they've never been taken off before

if anyone has an E9 or K9, could you post a pic of the trigger spring? mine, where the trigger spring is, looks to have a knick in the metal that has got me wondering if it should be there or not

Okay, I took it all the way down, used some Hoppe's with a gun cleaning brush and scrubed everything I could get to. there was a bit of dirt that had collected around the trigger bar. I also used Rem oil on just about every moving part I saw. put it all back together, cycled it prob 20 times and trigger worked each time. I will try to get out to my friends farm this week and throw a few clips through it and see how she does. Trigger still moves 1/8 maybe 1/16 of an inch forward, but doesnt seem to be hurting it at all. I figure its probably an old gun and the spring is a little weak. I'll see how it does with rounds in it. Thank you again for everyone's assistance with this! Im going to try to find the serial number sticky I thought I saw someone talking about in hopes of finding out more about this gun. Thanks again!
Mike
