View Full Version : "1st Group" with my new-to-me CW9 (added Laser)

I've had a P9 Covert for over a year now, which came about after I sold off the "snappier" P40 Covert, the smaller P380, and the PM9 before that (to my daughter's boyfriend/soon to be son-in-law). (Yup, sorta went "Kahr Krazy" a couple of years ago...) Now I've settled down some and I really love the Covert model. With the Wolff 5# Striker Spring installed in it, I am now hitting clay birds on the berm at 25 yards -- no, not every time, but scaring them on most shots and hitting WAY more than I would ever hit before the spring change, or with the snappy P40 Covert.

Anyway, I just picked up a used CW9 that looks like it's been shot very little, and it had a 2nd Mag included and a Hogue wrap-around grip on it. So for $350 "little used" out the door, I figured I just couldn't go wrong.

I'm planning to use this as a backup to my P9 Covert, and will have this Kahr 9mm to stash somewhere conveniently in the house, for those times I may not be carrying the Covert. That way, it's the same manual-of-arms, ammo, fit, feel and trigger pull. Holsters too, if needed. While it wouldn't work as well for IWB or concealed carry, I do have to admit the taller grip and having room enough for the pinky is kind of nice too.

After cleaning her up and doing the spring change the other night, I got her out to the range yesterday and here's the results of the "1st 3 Shot Group" with my CW9...

Not too bad, eh?!?

Now I can only hope my shots on target group do that well!

At first, they weren't... But that was with a clean bore, and the more that I shot her, I found that I started to hit better. So maybe she won't be a "Clean Queen" and I'll just "keep her dirty" -- but easily accessible.

I have to say, I really love my nice P9 Covert, but for the money, I'm sure this CW9 "poorer cousin" will also become a fond member of my Kahr family -- now that I'm all done with selling them off (or at least I think so...).

Tight groups!

WOW That take real experience to have that brass fall that tightly together. Good shooting.

My first two kahrs are the cheapy versions and they have been great. I also have a TP and darned if I can figure out the difference in quality when shooting it . But it don't matter its a great pistol too and all get the same treatment and respect.

It take a keen eye and steady hand to do that, not to mention a fine handgun. Glad to hear you're happy. The more you shoot Kahr pistols the better they get.

As my plan is to stash this CW9 in the house where it's easily accessible "just in case", I added a Crimson Trace laser-guard to it, which could be an aid if things ever go "bump in the night".

I still love my Covert, but the more I shoot this CW9, I realize it's a whole lotta Kahr for the money -- and a great shooter too!

For what I'm using it for -- upstairs/bedside security -- this will work out just fine for me. I haven't gotten to test "how she groups" with the laser installed yet, but now I've got another excuse to get over to the range.

Here she is, all ready to go, along with an extra mag (both loaded with Hornady FTX loads):

You got me! Didn't expect to see that kind of group.

I like the idea of having SD/HD guns with the same or similar manual of arms.
