View Full Version : My CM9 failed today - updated...pistol on its way home!
Hi all -
My nearly new Kahr CM9 broke at the range today. I have yet to break it down to see what is going on inside, but the trigger stopped resetting while I was at the range today. I have put about 400 rounds through it and was testing out some JHPs to see what worked best and after 80 rounds or so, I put a new mag in, racked the slide and pulled the trigger...nothing, no bang! I thought maybe round didn't go into battery so I dropped the mag and racked the slide. Out popped the round. I tried it a couple more times to with no success. It won't even dry fire. What a bummer! Anyone have any insight to this? I assume I will need to send it back to Kahr, but I would love to know if this is common at all.

It seems the standard "just shoot it like you stole it" doesn't apply this time.
More like "just box it up and ship it" is more appropriate.

make very sur ethe slide it totaly closed andwhat we call in battery and if the trigger is still dead on arrival,. Then email kahr attn: Jay and state ur case andask for a pre paid pick up. It could vbery well be a trigger bar that is acting up.
More than likely the striker channel is not clogged up but again, has this area ever been cleaned ouot since u got the gun new.If there was osme maching sh!tin there it cold have just got impacted and then it throws thegun out of time. I thinkI would address that area before sending it back. Use that cleanout hole o the bottom of the slide or better yet go to the kahr tech section and find SLIDE DISSASEMBLY and do it that way and then ur sure it is perfectly clean.
IMO it is either the trigger bar out of spec for some reason or a gummed up striker channel. One u can fix and check out yourself, the utterIMO it needs to go back.:amflag:

Could it be as simple as the trigger bar spring?

If it was mine, I would remove the slide and pull the trigger to see what is happening.
I wonder if the slide will come off if it has a dead trigger!
very well could be the trigger bar is stuck down due to crap holding it dow

I tried to get the slide off still the range with no luck. I will try again in a bit, but I have the same question.

With an unloaded (empty chamber and magazine out), lock the slide open, pull the trigger and see if anything moves. Also see if you can move anything with poking your finger into the ejection opening and see if you can get anything to move.
CAUTION, don't poke the slide release and pinch your finger.
Nope!! Can't get the slide off! crap!

Time to call Kahr.
Thanks Jocko for the advice. I just sent an email to Kahr, attention Jay. I can't even get the gun apart because I can't pull the trigger to release the slide. bummer!!
About to travel across the country to see family for Thanksgiving. Was looking forward to having the kahr on my side in the comfy N82 holster, but it looks like I will have to go with my trusty Ruger LCP and Glock 26 as a backup!
just for grins, see if the trigger resets with the pistol held upside down

Tried it ... No dice. Some one else mentioned that to me in addition to you!

Spray the snot out of it with a can of non-chlorinated brake cleaner.
Sent the gun back on November 19th, it should arrive at my door tomorrow, November 27th. That is a pretty impressive turn around. Spoke to Ian and he said they had to work on the trigger bar...put 4 mags thru it with no trouble. Hope that this is the one and only time Kahr has to provide such good customer service on this particular pistol.

I had this same exact problem today with my PM9, which sux because I just got it back from Kahr a few days ago for a slide lock problem. My 1st round will go bang, but subsequent shots require me to manually push the trigger forward with my index finger to reset. I called them today and talked to Ian, who then transferred me to the armorer/tech who handled my previous R.A., but he wasn't in and I had to leave a VM. It makes me a very sad Kahr owner, especially after hearing so many good stories. Guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I got it back today. It would have arrived last Wednesday, but I was out of town for Thanksgiving. Now I just have to regain my trust in it as a carry gun. That may prove to be difficult.

Hi all - I put a new mag in, racked the slide and pulled the trigger...nothing, no bang!
Sorry if someone else already mentioned this or you
know this already.
Kahr PM/CM9 has one known peculiarity. When
"racking" the first round it is recommend (in the
manual and by experienced owners), you DO NOT
grab the slide, pull back and let go, aka "Rack It".
To put the Kahr into battery you are suppose:
Lock the slide back.
Insert loaded magazine.
Release slide with slide release.
On the good news, it seems there were no misfires.
That is my experience, 350 rounds and no malfunctions.
You all have a great safe Christmas and New Years.

my cm9 had same problem. went to range fired 30 rounds, worked perfect, no problems whatever. came home cleaned it, reloaded carried it for 30 days. I started to clean it, but it felt really funny when trying to dry fire for disassembly. I got it apart cleaned everything really well. still would not work. I started checking each link in firing. when racking the slide, the trigger sear would not engage the sear/tang on the stricker, therefore not cocking the gun.. quite a shock to know you have been counting on a pistol for 30 days that does not work.

my cm 9 did same. wet to range fired 30 rnds . function flawless. went home and cleaned it. carried it for 30 days. started to clean it but trigger would not work. I got it apart and checked the firing sequence. when racking the slide the trigger sear did not engage the sear/tang on the striker. it is a shock when you find that the pistol you have been carrying for 30 days was not functional.
it is at the factory for repair.
I am going to have trouble trusting it now.

ur gonna think that way, then IMO I would peddle it and move on. Sumpin happened, it is not the norm by any means but it is what it is. U should never be married to any gun, but because My PMJ9 has never let me down in 32K rounds + does not mean the next trigger pull that I will get the sensation that u got.
Let kahr fix it if this is continuing as it is not right that is what u have a warranty for...Just sayin

Not suggesting this is the source of your problem, but Kahr specifically says to insert magazine and use the slide release to chamber the first round.

I had the same thing happen to my CW45. Sent it back to Kahr, and from the paperwork they sent back, it looked like they did quite a bit of work on it.
Great turnaround time. I was extremely pleased to see the USPS truck pull up exactly 7 days later with my pistol.
