Some pretty neat photos of the USS Sable, USS Wolverine and the folks that trained aboard them on Lake Michigan during WWII:

Great pictures! The Navy did quite a bit of training on the Great Lakes, particularly Lake Michigan. As late as the 1960's, they did submarine training there. I have fond memories of going on board an active diesel sub (Guppy class?) in Milwaukee harbor in '62.

Slick. I recall reading that the USCG built the ice breakers on the Great Lakes so big they could never leave the lakes. Excellent idea.

very interesting. We americans back then won thiese wars by total team work back home and ingeniuity beong belief. Cool photos. thanks.
Plus add to the fact that if there wa sunions or what ever back then, THERE WAS NOSTRIKES. everyone worked side by side to get the job done.

A while back I read the book Shadow Divers and learned that a German Sub was actually found, I beleave it was in Lake Michagan. It made it there during WW2.:80:
