Just got an 8 round mag with ext. for my CW9. It is really hard to get the mag to seat when the mag is empty (haven't tried it loaded yet). Is this normal?

All my extension mags are similar (for both the PM9 and the CW9). It takes a good smack to get them to seat properly (compared to the normal mags). I am also pretty confident (from previous discussions), that this is a common experience with other owners.
I think Kahr intended to have a tighter gap between the bottom of the grip and the top of the base plate because the magazine acts as an extension to the grip (it also serves to have this extended grip more stable). That last point is why I also believe they changed from the "chariot" curved style extension to the current design straight extension.

Mine takes a lot more force to seat the 8 rd mag. Train to seat the 8 rd, and you won't go wrong with the 7 rd. A heavy tap is always good.

Yeah my 8 rd mag is the same way.

Thanks for the reassurance. I was initially assuming something was very wrong.

I don't have the extension version , it a regular tp9 mag and goes in like the mag that came with my cw9 or the other replacements. Now when loaded it take a solid push to lock in but so do many handguns. Nothing special hard or unexpected.
