XDS in .45 ACP sold after getting it back from the recall (serious trigger issues)

carried the custom Colt CCO for two months - 8 rounds of .45 ACP

One of my firearm mentors convinced me that shot placement trumps caliber. (And I've been a .45 ACP guy.)

Now I am carrying an ugly, sunrise-dependable Gen3, Glock 19.

16 rounds of Barnes all-copper 9mm.

25 cent trigger job = smooth, 5 lb trigger

Not a bad choice Doc. I'd carry a Glock 19 Gen-4 if it didn't feel like a 2X4 in my little girl hands. They are butt ugly, but they do work when you call on them. The 9MM is adequate for self defense and a bit more controllable that the .40 and .45.

Nothin' wrong w/ that. If I wasn't carrying a Kahr that I trusted 110%, I'd have to add a Glock to my collection, painful as it is to say that, and it'd be a G19. Nothing else thin enough out there to be comfortable for me. For me, it's not hiding the grip, or even the barrel length. I carry a TP9 almost exclusively now. It's the thickness. The Glock would be next in line for that.

Nice to have such choices (e.g. 15 round mags.)... Written from Connecticut where "common sense" gun laws now prevail.

When in CA, you can carry a .22 with a 10rd mag or a .45 with a 10rd mag. Just one reason I went to a .45.

I would carry that before a Block any day...........If 8 rds. of .45 isn't enough, you might as well kiss your arse goodbye...............http://kahrtalk.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Years ago my friends and I, yes I had two fiends, would debate light fast vs slow heavy self defense ammo.
My solution, and first carry gun,
was a S&W 629 Mountain Gun loaded with Federal 240 gr 44 Mag Hydra-Shoks - the best of both worlds.
Later I switched to a Sig P220 45.
And then went through a variety of other makes and calibers.

The another popular debate was caliber vs capacity.
And my solution is a HK USP Tactical 45.
12+1 230 gr +P @ ~940 fps - the best of both worlds.
That along with my trusty titanium J-frame bug are what I carry on weekends.

Full Disclosure
Weekdays, in business attire, when only a pocket pistol will do.
My sub-compact HK P2000SK 357 Sig gets the call (9+1 125 gr @ ~1300 fps).

I'll likely be sporting my all stainless Kahr MK40 Elite on Thanksgiving.
Well dressed, drinking fine wine with close friends.

Happy Holidays Everybody!

You might be right on that, but keep in mind jeepster's green sheet. That sheet is pretty freekin' cool too. It's a toss up between the two for me. I'd live vicariously thru either one of them at this point.

While that all the weight of a 1911 feels great in my hand, not so much on my belt. And yes, the 45 makes nice big holes, but it ain't the only round that does the job either. Lighter is better, more bullets is better. Lighter and more bullets is way better. Good move.

Shot placement is everything, but in case a good shot doesn't present itself, I'd rather wound a guy with a .45 or .40 than the 9mm. Say in the shoulder or leg or something. That's just my preference. Anything, even a .22 is better than nothing. Too much depends on the attacker, what drugs he's hopped up on, pain tolerance, determination, etc.

Since I no longer subscribe to the idea that one hit from a handgun can reliably incapacitate an attacker (or attackers) trying to kill me, I am committed to sending bursts of at least 4-6 aimed shots at anything worth shooting. Two bad guys empties most .45's in a hurry. Capacity for "stopping power" is more important than a large caliber. I no longer feel comfortable wit fewer than 10+ rounds on board. There is no such thing as having too much ammo available when fighting for your life. There are many stories of .45 aficionados shooting to slide lock without solving their problem, but never a complaint from anyone who had rounds left in the gun at the end of a successful fight.

Various studies have not proven larger handgun calibers to be much more effective, especially when multiple hits are involved with good self defense ammo. A 9MM Barnes TAC-XP 115 grn expands quickly from .355" to .60" with 12-14" of penetration. That will put plenty of hurt on someone with a good torso hit, multiplied by 3-5 additional hits. Nine is fine.

I carried .40 S&W for years for the additional bullet diameter and weight, but with somewhat reduced capacity vs. 9MM. In balancing my priorities and compromises, I now carry a Beretta PX4 with 17+1 9MM, and the extended backup mag holds 20. My P40 and TP9 rarely come out to play any more.

Years ago I bought and carried a ParaOrdnance P12 double stack .45 for less than two weeks before realizing that weight was not worth the discomfort.

Three shots in three seconds from three feet is the statistical average in a gun fight. Any gun that you carry is better than any gun left at home.

Many of us Kahrtalk guys and girls have some impressive collections.
Some of us are just little more chatty about it than others - LOL!

Thanks...

ran 4 to 6 shot strings, very rapid fire just pointing (not aiming) at 10 yds

with practice this is gonna work just fine

Got the Dillon fired up after feasting today.

I have also switched back to 9mm for similar reasons. I largely carry my K9 now. I will add a P9 for summer use. Sometimes I switch to something double-stacked if clothing permits, and will also be running 9 in USPSA next spring. This will simplify my ammo stocks and reloading quite a bit, while making it more fun to shoot. I will hold onto some guns in other calibers in case I want them for whatever reason--such as my 10mm for hunting. Also so the kids can experiment as they get old enough.
