My father was an Insurance Agent and he used to review all bills going from the Hospital to the policy holder. It got to the point that the Local Hospitals stopped trying to scam his police holders.
Todays Agents are too lazy to do such extra work. They know the Insurance Company will pay anyway. You wonder why health insurance costs so much? This is only one of hundreds of reasons.

Bingo!
I love people that say who cares, it's covered by insurance. Somebody pays and pays dearly.
Doctors and Dentist look at me funny when I ask how much something is gonna cost. They usually say your insurance covers it.
And I usually come back and say that's not what I asked slick!
edit to add- that's actually the second thing I ask, the first is usually "You've done this before right? This ain't like your first time?"

Exactly. That very thought scares me to death. Wife almost died due to Dr.'s incompetence once and when she went back after having gone to the ER they wanted to prescribe a milder version of the same med that caused her seizure. Dumb a$$es.
A Dr. that knows the books is not like an experienced Dr. that has a full understanding of the human body.

I never question a man who is about to put a drill to my teeth. That's why I'm aka smiley. :)

Wife was in the Hospital last July for 16 days with a serious illness...The bill was over 100 grand but thank God we have great insurance coverage through my job but we are scared to death that Obama wont let us keep our policy like he said he would period...We looked over the multi page final bill and kept seeing repeated charges for $16.00 with the same billing number so we got curious and called Kaiser to see just what that repeated charge was for....
For most of the first week she couldn't eat so they brought her an Ensure nutritional drink and thats what the repeated $16.00 charge was for...In the drug store you can get a 6 pack for $12.00 but the hospital was charging Kaiser more than 8 times the value for one of the same thing....No wonder hospital stays are so expensive

Wife was dizzy for about a week and I finally got her to go to the hospital a while back.
She stayed in for a week and underwent numerous tests as well as MRIs, EEGs, EKGs, etc.
Got a statement about a week ago......................the MRI alone was billed at $62,000. Luckily my heart did not stop! Insurance and medicare paid for all of it!
