Many of us have probably considered or planned what we are doing with our guns as we pass from this earth to the other side. Kind of a sad, morbid :( thought, but a real one that needs consideration . Some of you may have willed them all, or certain guns to certain individuals.... or you've left them to your spouse to sell... whatever the case..... It's good to have a plan for our beloved guns to get them to the right hands where they will be cared for appropriately.

Let's say that one scenario is that when you know the time is drawing near, you decide to start giving out your guns to loved ones. Which guns do you plan to keep to the bitter end...until they pry them from your cold dead fingers?

I'm thinking that I may dole them out as I become too old to enjoy them, so they have a good home and I can experience the appreciation in the eyes of their new owners. However, I may keep my TC Encore with 7 scoped barrels and my handguns;... OR I may keep my Rem870, Rem760, a 22LR, a muzzleloader, and my handguns...and leave a note as to who will get them from my cold dead fingers :9:. Do you have a plan?

Good question with many answers and more broad than just firearms. Our aim is to be able to dole out specific items to the kids as we become less capable, and sell most everything else before we die. That way most of the estate will be cash, which is more easily divisible among the heirs. Few things cause problems among siblings like the melee over the folk's estate.

Of course, if we die in a car wreck tomorrow, it won't be so simple but I won't be concerned at that point.

My will states that my guns will be given to my son. My daughters get compensated with items of about equal value. One gets all my guitars and amps, except that my Son can have a bass or guitar and amp, in exchange for one or more of the guns of equal value, and my other daughter gets all my computers and TV's and Stereo stuff. So far she has expressed no interest in wanting a gun. Everything else is to be sold and the money distributed equally. I put a clause in my will that anyone that hires a lawyer, forfeits their inheritance. I've seen too many lawyers screw things up settling estates, and I don't want them bringing lawyers into something they should be able to handle amongst themselves. If any of them think they are getting screwed, they bring it up to the other 2 kids, and they vote, and the majority rules. I have went over the will with each of them and they are ok with it as it is.

Already set somewhat in place, providing the wife does here part. Those that have been handed down to me MUST be handed down to the deserving youngsters in the family.

The rest that I've purchased over the years? She can sell and have one hell of a party after I'm gone.
'
The flip side of this is I get to sell all of the dolls she has bought over the years and have a party for myself. Truth be told, I think her dolls are worth more than my collection.

Once I'm dead, what the hell do I care about the guns? Wife gets the firearms along with everything else. Unless we die coincident.....then all of it goes in trust to the dog kids. Yep....to lifetime care of our dogs.

I have no issues. All of my arms are held by a trust. The trustee is one of my oldest and dearest friends. They may do as they wish with them. Its my hope that they hold what they find dear, and liquidate the rest, or... perhaps see the investment potential of some, and hold them in the trust and let them further increase in value.

Gents, be it cameras, motorcycles, vintage guitars and tube amps aplenty, firearsenal .... I shall pass it by way of the trust, and sleep easy, knowing that the person most in step with my own heartbeat and twisted mindset has care of what I once held dear.

My wife shoots most of "our" handguns as well as or better than I do. The M1 Garand, not so much.

So . . . I'm guessing she will keep a one or two of the handguns including her favorite pictured below.

Whatever makes her happy is fine. Frankly, at that point, it won't matter to me . . .

Tman, you forgot one thing ... "the man" has a list of all your guns, and he will know when you're no longer among the living ... so he'll swoop in and confiscate them thus ensuring the eternal safety of future generations.

I've been giving my guns away to my sons for 20 years.

Pretty soon am going to have them draw straws to start a rotation pick of the majority of my remaining collection. Then they can go ahead & put them in their safes at home.

However, I'm gonna keep my LCP, CW45, SR45, S&W J frame Airweight, and Winchester 12 gauge Defender. Each one of those will have their name on it too for when I croak.

I think I'm gonna send all mine (those that survived the boating accident) to GB Greg when I cross the river, I'm hoping if he crosses the river first he'll send me all his. But I hope to cross first to be honest.

I've had so called friends already state that they plan to dig up my grave and retrieve my guns.

Clearly, I'll need to be buried in an unmarked grave.

I guess I should add that the few I will hang onto until the bitter ended will more than likely be my old Rem 870, Springfield Mil-Spec 1911 and one of my two .270's. Figure I'm pretty much covered for most of what I need a firearm for with those three.
