Don’t know if this was covered before but is there a replacement outer spring for the PM45 recoil spring

Excellent question, I've never bothered to find out. Probably should one of these days.

PM recoil springs
I feel that the recoil spring on the PM45 should be a few pounds heavier. So, I cobbled up a compression spring gauge from a digital fish scale.

I compared the outer recoil springs from a PM9 and PM 45. The non-scientific results are:

PM9 OEM spring = 12.5 lbs.
PM9 Wolff 20.5 lbs. set = 15 lbs.
PM 45 OEM spring = 12.5 lbs.

I have not tested the complete recoil assembly yet, need to build a fixture. The tests were with new unused springs and the springs in the pistols with about 1000 rnds. each. The results with new and used springs were essentially the same with in a couple ounces. The springs were compressed to 90%.

I may try the Wolffs spring in my PM45. Any thoughts?

Sooo, I installed the PM9 outer spring on the PM45 assembly then ran about 50 rounds and it functioned perfectly. Draw your own conclusion.

Not trying to bust the thread, so please continue. Just commenting that I hate to think of the day that I will need to change out my recoil springs on my PM40. I have developed such a nice load for it that it is a real pleasure to shoot. Changing the spring means I would have to start over to find my puffy load again. Glad I got that out....

on the PM45 and what is on the PM40/PM9. that should give u some indication. I would have guessed they would not inrterchange but your findings tell maybe different. If it slides pver te recoil outter tube and is the same coil count/length (sizine new for new and not new for used). Then I would say your right.. If so it should save alot of u kahr 454 guys some bucks over buying the entire recoil assembly, which IMO is not needed. replace the outter and shoot the fokker like u stole itj..Just sayin
