Hey, I was just curious as to how durable everyone's black slides are and how well they hold up to abuse. I've only had mine for a few days and I notice it is already getting some wear spots -- not much of an issue as I really don't mind, I just thought it might be a bit more durable!
I have a few stainless slides and have been lusting for a black one. I'll be watching the responses closely.
Thanks.

Somehow, I ended up with one of each color.

The PM40 with a stainless slide is carried more often but still looks like new. The PM40 with the black slide is "OK". Under the black coating, the slide is stainless steel. Any little bumps or wear points, like the bottom edge of the slide where the slide lock lever taps it, will show a bright spot where the "Black Diamondk" coating chips off.
You don't see any here because I hit them with Caswell's stainless blackening paste (http://www.caswellplating.com/black-oxide-gel-kit.html). While not perfect, it does make those inevitable little bright silver marks disappear, mostly. :D

I tried it on the stainless barrel hood too, with only fair results.
Why, yes! I might be a little OCD about some things. How did you know? :o
Thats because the hood, with the rest of the barrel, is nickel plated, not stainless.
My black DLC slide is holding up pretty well. It isn't perfect, but it isn't a mess. It has a few bright spots.
The other black slide I have is a GunKote (K-Kote, Kalguard, etc, its all the same). That slide has done pretty well, with the exception of one or two very tiny nicks.
Both of those get carried in my front pocket, so see a good deal of wear potential.

Thanks for the replies. Anyone have any experience cerakoting a Kahr? Are the tolerances on the slide too tight for this type of finish?

I had my MK9 refinished by Birdsong. They did a great job, but it did take them 12 weeks because of their backlog. It hasn't skipped a beat since I got it back.

Good to hear, do you have any pics available?

The original slide was black (also by Birdsong), and the barrel I polished myself.

Thanks Bawanna
Quik Grip is no longer available from Lone Wolf. You can still find them on Amazon.com. The size that you need for a PM/CM9 is a number 3. They're in short supply, so if you want one, order it ASAP.

Very nice Rev. Although I doubt I will ever cerakote my P380... However if I win this USP on gun broker tomorrow I may have to get it cerakoted!

I have the PM40 in all black. I've even added the black mag base from Kahr...although I feel that Kahr should provide this as a standard feature on their 5 rd mags. Anyways, the black diamond cote finish that came on my PM is amazingly durable. Shows no signs of wear from daily carry. This black coating wears like iron and for anyone desiring a black Kahr, I'd strongly suggest getting this feature. I am extremely pleased with the finish. So much that I paid the price for the same finish on the 5 rd mag base. It finishes off the gun.
Ive had my CM9 slide Cerakoted black and put about 600 rounds through it since and its my EDC. Still looks brand new, no wear issues yet.
