I have a Kahr K9 and PM9, I like both guns and I am thinking of getting a PM40 but can't find a gun shop in NYC/LI area to test fire 40. Is their much of a difference in recoil and handling between PM9 and 40? I realize gun is small that's why I don't want to buy it and get stuck with a gun that is too small to handle the higher power round. Also is the difference between PM and cw firearrms worth the price tag? Thanks for any input you may provide.

I got my PM9 about two and a half years ago, and I've sorta been regretting that I didn't get the 40 instead. The PM is the only 9mm in my collection. I've shot the PM40 and while it's a handfull, it's not that extreme.

The PM's and CW's are completely different pistols - the CW's are quite a bit larger. A better comparison would be the PM and CM series. They are basically the same guns with the CM's coming out way ahead on price.

Handgun selection is a matter of personal preference.
You really need to shoot these guns, or something like them, to decide for yourself.

Personally, I rented a P9, P40 and K40 when selecting a Kahr.
Opinions vary.
But I found the P40, much like my friends Walther PPS 40,
to have too much felt recoil for me to want.

The P9 was fine. As was the K40.
I really think the single stack, super light, polymer guns are best in 9mm.
And the stainless Kahrs handle the 40 just fine.

I ended up selecting, and still have, a Kahr MK40 Elite with factory NS.
I'm very happy with the Elite.
IMHO it's worth every penny and has exceeded my expectations.

IMO, that is very good advice.

stick with the 9's.u won't go wronbg. pleasat to shoot, ammo is more available, BG will never know the difference. Very seldeome do we everhear of the unpleasantness of shooting a 9mm but we do hear alot on the 40's. IMO there is certainly a big difference in the recoil of a 9 and a 40. would be ise if u could to shoot a kahr 40 in rthe frame size ur looking for.

When I want to shoot 9mm, MK9..........when I want to shoot .40.....Beretta 96.........40 cal is pretty smooth out of a 96.

I've got to agree. You have good advice here. Try to compare them on the range, if you can. Every gun is different. If you have any question that the 40 is too much for you, better stick with the 9. I picked the 40 for obvious reasons, but that's me. I never looked back. I've found the PM40 to be a wonderful shooter, but I also reload my own special ammo for it. I made the 40 my cal and the 380 my wifes. lf you think will be sensitive to the 40, stick with the 9. Its a good cal too.

If you have any reservations at all don't buy a PM40 before trying one out. I find the sharp pressure curve of the .40 an undesirable handful in lw sub compact guns.
