So...I am using this thread as kind of sounding board to my quest for a Kahr pistol. I understand it is really my decision, but putting it up helps me think it through.

I've narrowed my search to the K and P models, either a 40 or a 9...I like the size and fit of these. Played with them all.

Facts to consider...
1. I am older than many and appreciate a steel gun...poly, not so much
2. I like to reload and have a ton of 9mm brass.
3. I also like to reload different calibers...already doing 9mm, 9x18 Mak and 45 ACP. .40 would be fun to try.
4. Carry is not a big deal. Illinois will start CCW in January. I've taken the qualifications, and will apply because I support it, but I really don't know if I will carry. Never felt the need before, and the liability risks are huge.
5. They all look good...They all feel good.
6. Price, although important, is not a huge issue.

Currently I am leaning towards the K40, but I could go with any of them.

So any thoughts appreciated. Maybe I've missed something to consider.

Bob

If arthritis is an issue, you will prefer the 9. Otherwise a steel 40 will be fine.

Good luck with your selection.

The K9 can be hard to rack, but recoil is so nice it might make up for it.

If arthritis is an issue...

No, not yet...still under 60...(but just barely;))

Thanks for the reply....:)

Bob,

I started with a CM9 and then got a used K9. I wish I had done it the opposite way.

My K9 is the sweetest shooting gun I've ever owned. It's stable and dead-nuts on if I do my part. I have to work harder at the CM9. I can shoot it well but if I am the least bit sloppy it shows me.

The K9 is easy to IWB carry in the winter with heavier clothing. The CM9 is easier in the warm weather.

Good luck in your search.

Tinman...thanks. I was mostly thinking go heavy(steel) and .40 or light(poly) and 9...but you've caused me to rethink that maybe heavy and 9 might be the answer...

Still...I would love to reload the .40:)

Bob,

I started looking for a K9 but ran across a good deal on an MK9 first. Then 9mm became scarce and I found a K40. I'm really glad I found both and wouldn't change a thing. Although I greatly prefer the steel models, I bet I would have been happy with a polymer gun too. They are all good guns. They are all tight. And they all take patience, understanding and good care to keep them running right. Good luck. :)

Started with an E9, gave it to my son and bought a K9. Loved it so much a T9 followed me home. 55yo and arthritis in my hands and they are both easy, natural shooters. T is easier to rack, but I have no problems with the K. Next will be a CM or PM for pocket carry, but will definitely be a 9. Can you tell I am partial to steel as well. Old school old fart.

>40 cal. is my favorite round to shoot..........but I don't shoot it from a small platform. You should like it. Then you can get a 9mm, because you'll like that also..................I don't think there is much difference in the calibers, as far as recoil, but I'm not recoil sensitive. The .40 is a snappy round.........kind of why I like it.

Picked up the K40 yesterday....Very nice!

Went through the "New Kahr Prep" and the "Kahr Lube Diagram" threads in the New Member Area...all good.

Can't wait to get to the range and break it in....:D

If the recoil gets to be too much, you can always get it Mag-na-ported... about $145 plus shipping the barrel and slide both ways. I bought a Mag-na-ported P40 off the Marketplace here and love it... 8 ounces lighter in the polymer version. I was considering the K40 and porting, but found the P40 already done, and saved the cost of the porting.
