Hi everyone,

I was wondering if you could give me some advice.

Is trading a factory new Kahr CW9 plus $135 for a used Kahr CM9 with Trijicon night sights and pinky extension on the magazine a decent deal? He says he's the second owner of the gun and said, including both owners, only about 100 rounds have been through it. I haven't personally inspected the his CM9 yet, but assuming that goes well, do you think it's a decent deal?

Factory new CW9s and CM9s, I've found, are fairly equal in price on the internet (CM9s being a tiny bit more). I hear night sights plus having someone install them can run near that 135 he's asking (I could be wrong). But because it's used I was, of course, going to counteroffer that 135. Thoughts?

Trade a new CW9 AND $135 for a used second owner CM9 just because it has night sights? I would say hell no. In no way is that a fair trade. I would keep the CW and the money and go buy the sights if that is what you want. I think someone is trying to pull a fast one.

The "C" models are pretty much equal in price and night sights aren't worth the difference. You would be better off buying a new one and getting them installed yourself, even if it cost $135. They would all be new and under warranty for sure. Ditto what ParabellumJ said. Two owners selling quickly... hmmmmm?

I have to agree with this. It definitely seems like you are getting taken on this deal. I agree with Wynn about being Leary of a gun with two owners and only 100 rounds. Something is not right! If anything I would say the trade should be equal between the NEW CW9 and the USED CM9 with night sights - no money involved. Most guns lose a lot of value once they are used, no matter how 'like new' they are

If your CW is a good working gun, why risk the trade for a faulty gun? Besides, night sights are way over rated. I have them on my PM40 and don't feel they offer me much advantage. I won't replace them because they still work. But when I do, I am putting a flat black Novak rear sight with a Fiber Optic front sight on my carry piece. Keep you CW and your money. If you like the CM better, be sure to give it a good range test and if you find you like it better than your CW, then offer to trade even. JMHO.

Perry's gunshop in NC has brand new cm9's advertised for $349.00. You should be able to make a better deal.

I think your original math is correct. You are trading retail to retail plus retail on the sights. I guess it comes down to why you want to trade. There is certainly no $$ advantage unless you do some good negotiating. And I think the earlier posters are right that you should be suspect about a gun that was traded in twice. Why didn't the previous owners like it? I wouldn't be shy about making an offer if I really wanted the CM

Hello callsaul...Welcome to Kahrtalk!!!....Have to agree 100% with the others...If you really want a CM for pocket carry I would trade or preferably sell your CW yourself....A second option if you want the shorter grip is to chop it to CM length and use CM magazines....Kahr use to sell a model called a Covert that was factory done but others here have done it themselves or sent it out to be done....If I were you though and wanted a CM I would sell the CW and buy a new one from a dealer rather than risk an unknown 2nd owner pistol that may be a problem child....

Night sites on these pistols IMHO are over rated...These are short range, point and shoot guns and I'm pretty sure if God forbid you have to fire it at a bad guy you won't notice whether the gun even has sights or not....

By the way, I love your forum screen name....I suppose you are referring to Saul Goodman the sleeze ball Lawyer from "Breaking Bad"....He was my favorite character next to Walter and I hear there is going to be a spin off show with him as the star...Should be interesting....Saul was the biggest dirtbag of an ambulance chasing, late night TV show advertising lawyer I can think of but if I was in a really bad spot I'd want ole Call Saul on my team for sure!!!

Thanks for your quick responses.

I think you're all right. The reason I want the CM9 is the shorter slide. It reminds me of a Glock 26 only not as fat as a Glock 26. That's exactly what I'm looking for. I'm not living or dying on the night sights, although a nice addition, I'm more so just considering them as part of the overall value on his CM9. Also with this particular CM9, it's nice that it's already semi-broken in which saves me money I don't have.

I'd have to agree, it's weird that both owners are getting rid of it fairly quickly. He said he's only owned it for 8 months.

I'm starting to think biting the bullet and getting a new CM9 and just selling the CW9 at factory new price -- essentially canceling each other out -- would be better.

This all really is unfortunate because I'm a student in MN and live there year round, but am still a resident of IN because I'm still on the parents' taxes as a dependent, etc. It really narrows my windows for when I'm able to purchase a handgun, i.e. when I'm home on break. That being said, if I ordered a handgun on the 10th of this month and had the FFL info sent to the seller the next day, how long should I expect it to take until it arrives at my FFL? Forgive my ignorance, it's the first time I've purchased online. I'm just getting impatient because I need to get it before I have to go back to MN for school at the end of this month. It's been since the tenth and it still hasn't even been sent out to ship yet. I bought it from Northern Firearms in Walker, MN.

Thanks, everyone, and sorry for the length!

I didn't see your comment before I posted my novel above. But yeah I'd have to agree with you. Thanks for the input.

And yes, it's a reference to that Saul. I agree with your sentiments on him hahah. Love that show and can't wait for the spin-off.

Not sure where you want to order it from but most big on line retailers like Bud's or Gunbroker have a list of FFL shops they deal with in your home town area and if you use one of those it speeds up things because you don't have to send the on line retailer the local FFL shops paperwork....This is the busiest time of the year for FedEx and UPS but even with that after the FFL is accepted and the gun shipped out they should have it to your local shop in a few days...

Buying on line is a little scary the first time you do it but it really is a no brainer and to me is the only way to go because you can get exactly the gun you want and you can shop for price so you get the best of both worlds....

Only warning I can offer is that when the gun gets to your selected FFL shop that you field strip it and inspect it thoroughly and if there is ANYTHING you see that's questionable even if it's cosmetic then nix the deal and ship it back for another one because once the FFL goes through and the paperwork is signed it belongs to you and it becomes your problem if you find something wrong with it when you get home....Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask....You have found the best gun forum on the interweb, lots of nice folks here to help you out....

Now that I posted the above I see you bought it from Walker's...Give them a call and just say you want to check status on the shipment and advise them you need it by the end of the month, shouldn't be a problem even with Christmas shipping delays, nothing to lose doing that....Do inspect it when you get it to the dealer though.....Let us know how it works out and give us a range report....

I completely agree with you on buying on the internet. For instance, I go into a gun shop or a Gander Mountain type place and the prices are double, if not triple, the price of the same exact gun online. I don't get it. I basically just use those places to get a feel of it in my hand before I order.

Thanks again. You've been extremely helpful.
