View Full Version : CW45 Trigger 'Bottoming Out'?

I was hoping you experienced folks could help out. I purchased a CW45 back in August new and I loved the darn thing so much I bought a CM9 a few weeks after the CW45. I love both guns immensely but I've run in to a slight issue that I hope you can help out with. Keep in mind also, that they both have had about 500 rounds through each (230 grn and 115 grn FMJ)
My CM9 works like a charm, the trigger pull and reset are great, everything about it I love.
The trigger pull on my CW45, however, seems a bit 'off'. When I was at the range last (a couple of weeks ago) it felt like I really had to pull the trigger back farther than normal to get it to fire--one time I even thought I had pulled it all the way back and it didn't fire--this has never happened with my CM9. What I mean is, it seemed like the trigger was having to be pulled all the way back, then just a bit more, for it to fire--like I had to provide an extra amount of squeeze to make it go bang. I also noticed that the rear of the slide lifts ever so slightly prior to it firing (confirmed when dry firing it) and there seems to be a slight hitch in the trigger pull as the rear of the slide lifts. I know this can be useful to 'feel' the break of the trigger but it seems like that extra amount of squeeze to fire is too much.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this or should I contact Kahr straight away to see if it's an anomaly? I consider myself a gun enthusiast but I really don't know much about gunsmithing. I've really looked at the mechanism while cleaning it and I didn't notice anything unusual but again, I don't know what it should look like.
BTW, I love this forum and plan on contributing more as I use my Kahr's more.

You could be having an issue with the trigger bar or cocking cam. You can't go wrong by contacting Kahr service. Explain the problem and proceed as directed. Make sure that you tell them of your success with the CM9 and request a prepaid mailing label if they ask you to send it back to the mothership. You shouldn't encounter any resistance. There's method to my madness. :)

Thanks muggsy. I put a call in and had to leave my number. Hope they call back today and let me know my options. I will ask for a prepaid mailer though.

right in contacting kahr, Make sure the gun is in full battery, meaning the slide and barrel are fully locked. the slightest bit out of batteryt will roduce what your having. Check to see that none of those rounds ur using could be keeping the slide from going into full battery. It could be an out of "now" spec trigger bar, seems odd that it is just doin this now . How about trying anutter brand of ammo to see if that helps any also. U gotta start soewhere to eliminate the possbilities before getting to excited. If ur gettig a dead trigger meaning u pull it back and nuttin happens, then indeed get ahold of kahr but if the gun is out of time the slightest u can get a dead trigger to.
Be more aware this nesxt shoot to, so feel what is going on with the 45 and when u feel it is not right before the bang thing might happen, STOP right there and look everything over. Kahr willfix it if sumpin is wrong.:amflag:

Kahr got back to me a week ago and after filling out the RMA online, I eventually emailed the service address and got a response from Mike. He got me the RMA and said that he would send me a prepaid label so I dropped it off in the mail today. I did try another brand of ammo with the same result. Dry firing was also the same. On another thread, user Laneman was having similar issues so I responded there as well. I'll advise how the issue is cleared up when I get my pistolero back.

I believe the problem I am having is also related to the cocking cam/trigger bar interaction. Mine was jamming and I noticed that it was difficult to rack the slide with the trigger held back. I also noticed that the back of my slide lifted up and angled to the left when I pulled the trigger. I wonder if there was a bad batch of parts affecting our weapons. I purchased mine new in August. When I shared pics with Jason from Kahr he said the cocking cam was too high with the trigger pulled back.

I don't know what the exact problem might be, but Kahr is aware of it and will fix it. It could be parts problem or an assembly problem. Kahr will resolve the issue for you.

doubt with a loaded magazine in te gun that the slide will move upward or tilt, the loaded magazine moves the slide upward to its fullest. Empty, yes it wlld o that but again a "moot" pont, unless ur gonna beat the BG to death with the gun.
Most dead triggers are trigger bar related more than any cocking cam . . I have seen kahr replace the entire uppers on some guns

Thought I'd update the folks here. I got a prepaid shipping label for my Kahr and got it to them in a couple of days. Within two days of having received it, I got a phone call from Kahr saying they couldn't duplicate my issue of the trigger bottoming out. I explained that I also own a CM9 and it just didn't feel the same on my CW45. He said he'll have one of the gunsmiths look it over and they'll get it back to me promptly. I asked him about a different way to clean it or if it was gummed up in any way that could be causing it. He said that I did a good job of cleaning it because when they received it they looked it over first.
Anyway, I don't think they replaced the trigger bar but maybe dropped some more lube down in there. I got it back a week or so later and the only thing I was slightly dissatisfied with was they never cleaned it prior to sending it back to me. They test-fired it several times (according to the guy on the phone) but sent it back dirty. Not that I minded that much; they did pay for shipping both ways. So, I took it yesterday for the first time (in the Midwest it's been awful darn cold for a while now) and it appeared to function normally. I only fired about 25 rounds through it so I'll take it out again when it gets warmer and put it through its paces.
Maybe I'm crazy and maybe now even Kahr thinks I'm crazy, but I know I'm not the only one with this problem. I'll keep shooting it until I either notice it again or until I admit that the problem was on me and not my firearm.

I've been having the same problem with my CW45. I tried flushing the trigger bar with oil and it seemed to get better. Today I took it to the range, outdoor, and the CW45 was the third gun to be shot, after 200 rounds of 9mm had been shot in two other guns (one is a CM9).
The problem was back and as bad as ever. But after shooting one magazine the second magazine would be more "normal". Was this a problem with the oil becoming too thick due to the 25f temperature? Probably. Tonight here at home it's fine again. I think I need to clean this area before the next range session.
I am trying to avoid sending it back to Kahr if I can help it. Working the way it was today made accurate shooting a challenge.

When my CM9 trigger bottomed at the frame, I sent it back. Kahr's "fix" was to "grid" off the top part of the cocking cam. The cocking cam has points in all my Kahrs except this one. Just ground off the tip and called it fixed.

When you want to post a picture you have to scroll down a bit and click on "attach" a file, then just browse to the pic and add it.

ot advise doing that.ore than likely ur original cocking cam was never right in the first place. A bottoming out issue is not related to the cocking cam. It is more related tothe trigger bar being out of synch. Just sayin.
If grinding is the fix then IMO let kahr do it.One is getting into a very critical area of the trigger system of a kahr when u mess with the cocking cam.:D
