Anyone other than me remember outhouses and Sears catalogs? I mean from actual experience?

Oh, yeah. Been there - done that. The day we got our indoor plumbing was like heaven. My grandfather would never use it. I remember him saying "You don't go to the bathroom in the same house you eat in." The good ole days.

We had one double hole seater. I did not like it in the summer time with wasp and spiders. When I was really young I was afraid a big spider would come and bite me where I set.

Around 1956, we filled our last Outhouse Pit and moved the above ground structure to the ditch

Todays youth would have no clue what a one holer was. My for the good ol days. Wehad a cherry treeabout 20 feet from our outhouse and that damntreeproduced the biggest nicest cherrys u ever seen. Must have been a good tree, U THINK??? Just sayin

We only had a one hole out house too, Jocko. Being the gentleman that I am, I always allowed my wife to go first, particularly in winter when the seat was cold. Knowing you, yours has a lambs wool seat cover. :)

Paper is not completely dead! I would rather shoot at paper at the range than my iPad!

holers was a his and hers. the his hole was twice as deep as the hers. as most men are more full of sh!t. Just sayin.so at that rate the outhousle would fill up evenly. Modern science back in the 30's. Just sayin

The multi-seat outhouses I experienced all used ONE hole in the ground. My mother told me about an experience where she sat down and found that the HOLE was FULL... up to HER seat!

My grandparents had an outhouse until 1986! I used to love it when I was a kid as there were plenty of lizards to be had crawling around the thing, though it did stink to high heaven. There were chamber pots in the bedrooms (three bedroom shotgun shack) that my lovely grandmother emptied every morning.

The reason they had the outhouse until '86? My grandfather never understood the need nor want for running water in the house, let alone a bathroom. He died in '86 and that was the first thing my grandma did!

Good memories!
