Well I've been visiting the site for a couple of weeks now and haven't officially introduced myself in here...so Hi to everyone and thanks for all the help in getting me familiar with my CW40. I'm a native of Florida and still live here. I used to have a CCW permit a couple of decades ago, but I haven't renewed it. I also had a small handgun collection during that era, but have sold all of them. The only thing I really hung on to was a .25 ACP Beretta Jetfire, mainly because some one special made me a wallet holster for it I never wanted to part with. A .22 Remington bolt action rifle, and a Mossy 500 Persuader I bought about four years ago for home defense. I have obtained a CW40 and pretty much have it dialed in now for carry. I did my class last week and have an appointment in early January to apply at Dept. of Ag. for my permit. At one time I was active in shooting and defensive tactics. Read a lot of Massad Ayoob and stuff like that. I am interested in getting back into it a bit. Florida is a great state for gun owners (so far) and I want to take advantage of it.

Welcome to the forum. I was born in Tampa, myself, but spent a lot of time in Texas and considered myself a Texan for a long time... was stationed there many times in the USAF and lived there as a child and later as a "retiree" while my wife was stationed at San Antonio.

We moved to Jacksonville back in early '97 and have lived here ever since, surpassing my time in Texas. I may move back out there if we ever get financially able, too... less potential "Zombies" in some areas out there.

Here's my usual info for new members:

Welcome to the Kahrtalk forum supported by K a h r Arms.
Here are a few essential links and things to do BEFORE you take your new pistol to the range, and ESPECIALLY BEFORE taking it apart and trying to re-assemble it! The Kahr is a different design… 6-7 unique patents cover the Kahrs. I’m not trying to imply that you don’t know anything about guns, but many don’t know anything about the Kahrs and some of the things you can do to damage or cause malfunctions of your new, or new-to-you Kahr pistol.

First, if you don’t have a manual, yet, or one didn’t come with your pistol, you can view it and/or download the pdf file here:
http://www.kahr.com/PDF/kahrmanual.pdf

Please watch one of these videos FIRST! These videos can point out possible problem areas and emphasize correct procedures!
Take down and re-assembly videos:

K series:

There are many links on fixing problems listed in several places… under the New Member or Kahr Tech sub-forums. To start, a very good one:

Proper Prepping of a new Kahr:

http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=14748

A very handy one is the Kahr Lubrication Diagram:
http://kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=14750

Many of your questions can be answered in these areas and you can learn how your Kahr works and not damage it with improper handling.

Another great resource for information on Kahrs... Archives of Magazine and Internet Reviews for Kahr pistols by industry experts. They test these pistols and report on their views and the ammo they tested in it. This is a good way to find ammo that might fit your needs along with accuracy and feeding in the pistol... usually from a rest with velocity and energy, as well as penetration and expansion sometimes... very informational.

Frequently asked questions: http://www.kahr.com/faq.asp?

One very important bit of advice: Hold the Kahr pistol firmly when firing OR CHAMBERING a round. These compact pistols need all of the force they can get from the slide to get a round into the chamber successfully. If you don't hold the pistol firmly, part of the needed momentum is transferred to MOVING THE PISTOL and the top round will DIVE and jam into the right side of the feed ramp. The weak hand, over hand rack method gives the best grip and a firm rack will give you the best chance at chambering a round.

Use the weak hand fingers over the slide(clear of the ejection port), thumb along the slide and pointing to the rear. Use the gun hand to simultaneously firmly push the gun as you give a vigorous rack with the weak hand and cleanly release the slide as it reaches the rear limit and is "snatched" from the weak hand. This approximates a real rack from firing and beats the slide release method WHEN executed properly. Much more strength can be exerted when this is done closer to the body.

Here's a video on that. The first part is what I'm talking about:

There are many helpful members here most of the time who might be able to help you, but as anywhere, there are many opinions and not all are correct. Be mindful of this before doing anything drastic to modify your pistol!

PS: I keep thinking of stuff to add and help new members... and am trying to cover most of the popular subjects. Yes, it's repetitious to many, but possibly not to all new members. This approach is easier than having to look up every tidbit for each new member or question that arises. :)

A fellow Tampon!, thanks wyntrout and and thanks for serving. I have gone over much of that info and it was very helpful. Saw your reply on my ammo question too. Amazing what a little .380 can do. I used to carry a Taurus PT58 I think was the model. It was a large frame with a four inch barrel. Very low recoil and 12+1 round capacity. I also had the PT52 9mm, but I could shoot that .380 very rapidly. I liked Silvertips and Hydroshoks in those days. However, these days I'll be sporting a CW40, I've got the .40 fever I guess. But I will likely be acquiring more guns in the near future as well.

I had never tried the .40 S&W and had heard too much about how bad the recoil was. I finally shot my just-retired LEO brother's compact XD40 of some kind, and didn't think it was too ferocious. So far, both of my first two .40's are ported... P40 and G23C, and I'm thinking about a Gen 4 G27 with either Mag-na-porting or a ported add-on barrel for less recoil and more fps... but not sure... would like a P45 DLC with Trijicon HD NS, even if I have to fit the sights myself!

Tampa? Tampa? Did someone just mention mafunction junction?

HA! And the veneralble.... Mons Venus and Club 2001 (if its still there).

I have spent many a night, sleeping in the bed of my Ford Ranger (longbed fortunately), under the stars, and inside a security fence... fully armed.... at an undisclosed location in the Grant Park section, just south of MLKJr Blvd. Yikes... those were the days!

LOL, I live less than a mile from the Mons and 2001. I don't go there. I do a lot of driving in my courier business, and avoid the junction like the plague. You do know a bit about the cigar city CJB.
I frequent St. Pete routinely in my travels and really like it. Been visiting those beaches all my life.

Welcome. Used to live in Fort Myers and Cape Coral. Moved back home to upstate NY. We drive by you on our way to Naples every winter in our Class A motorhome. Not very familiar with Tampa, but I've been there a couple of times. 40 is a good cal. for SD and range. If you ever get into reloading for it, you can make yourself nice puffy loads to make your CW40 a very pleasant range gun so you can get very familiar with her. Anyway...Welcome.

Not from Florida but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Welcome. Enjoy your .40. It's become my favorite round.
