Happy Festivus! I'm not a Seinfeld fan, so I'm calling it Gifting Day. I've found out some things in my studies, that no longer allow me to celebrate Christmas as the birth of Christ.
It's too damn commercial anyway, It's not even much about Christ's birth anymore anyway. I think they should change the name and make it a secular holiday, and celebrate the Christ Mass closer to the date Jesus was born, most likely in September during the Feast of Tabernacles.
(according to a group of Biblical scholars that went through old Roman records, and correlated them with events from the Bible. They spent years doing this to come up with the date, around September 23rd, 3bc)
That said, I mean no offense to anyone, or to the way anyone celebrates Christmas. It's not easy to break away from a tradition that is over 1600 years old, and a big part of my childhood memories, and the memories with my own kids. Atheists and pagans and other non-Christians celebrate it anyway, so why not make it a secular holiday, like Thanksgiving or New Years or Valentines Day? If anyone wants to know more how I came to this conclusion, PM me and I can give you some links to check out. I'm sorry that I brought up religion on a gun forum.
Have a happy holiday season everyone. Now I'm off to dig all the boots out of my butt that just got planted there. :o

I have heard the same thing Tman was saying...and it could very well be true. Regardless, Christ's birth is celebrated on 12/25. Doesn't really matter what the date is , as long as the celebration of the birth and His purpose continues. It has become commercialized and about giving because it is highly significant. His coming is a wonderful celebration and a giving time of the year, as He gave to us.
Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday Lord.

To All My Democrat Friends:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2014, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other countries nor the only "America" in the Western Hemisphere. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishes.

To My Republican Friends:
Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year ;)

Geez there's a bunch of humorless people around here. I think Festivus is a fun/funny idea. I celebrate Christmas, Boxing Day, New Years, Easter...At my age I celebrate darn near every day. If you can't have a little fun about it without getting your underwear wrapped around the axle then I hope Christmas brings you some happiness. It appears Muggsy and I are the only ones that got the humorous intent in this thread.

Merry Christmas to all here and to your families. I don't care what you call it, but for me it's "Merry Christmas". Enjoy it in the glow of the company of your families.

Best Wishes

I think most of us got it too. I realize the initial thread was in fun and I was merely responding to another aspect of the thread. Happy Festivus to you.

Regardless of the actual date of Christ's birth, Christian's are celebrating the birth of Christ their savior. I don't think that anyone should try to spoil that for them. It's supposed to be a time of peace and joy for all men. I wishing you all regardless race color or creed a very merry Christmas and the very best in the coming new year. May God bless and keep you all.

The only reason I don't celebrate Christmas, is that it took pagan festivals, and celebrated them in Christ's name, which we were told specifically not to do.
I have to do what is right for me and my beliefs.

I think everyone should celebrate however they believe is right or how the want too. I am not out to try and change the way anyone celebrates anything It is none of my business how others celebrate the day. I just wanted to explain why I don't celebrate the same as other Christians. So have a Merry Christmas, however you celebrate it, and a Happy New Years too.
