MOSCOW — Russia has announced funeral arrangements for Lt. Gen. Mikhail T. Kalashnikov, inventor of the AK-47 assault rifle. “Comrade Kalashnikov will be buried in a pit of mud with full military honors,” said General-Major Saiga Molot, a spokesman for the Russian army. “After a week, we will exhume his body, clean it off, and put him back to work. We expect that there shall be no issue with his functions.”
Kalashnikov died of complications from a liver transplant operation. The liver Kalashnikov received was allegedly Romanian, but turned out to be a substandard Albanian version.
“It was a successful substitution, but it made him inaccurate and prone to blockage,” said his son, Victor.
While praised for his simple operation and ruggedness, Kalashnikov is also being remembered for his contributions to over 300 insurgencies, 524 known terrorist groups and at least 18 hostile regime changes.
“We will always be grateful to General Kalashnikov for giving us the inspiration for Kevlar,” said DuPont President and CEO Ellen Kullman.
An outpouring of support came from some unexpected areas, including Hollywood, which gave him a star on the walk of fame for his contribution to action films which “helped the audience identify the bad guys without further visual or audio cues” as well as the music industry.
“You can rhyme about a MAC-10 or Uzi, but they know you’re serious when you start pulling out that AK,” said rapper Banana Clip. “Think of what rhymes with 47 – heaven, um… Devon? 7-11? Yeah.”
Kalashnikov is survived by 21 major variants and 31 national operators in addition to several unknown and unidentified versions.

This level of disrespect for one of our gun designer greats, akin to John Browning, is disgusting and completely uncalled for.

R.I.P Misha....you are already missed.

Really?
I think the article speaks volumes to the man's genius. The indestructible nature of the original AK and the many copies and variants. It's an iconic firearm and I think the article was pretty damned clever. I sensed no disrespect at all in it.

I didn't either, it was clever.

For what it's worth I don't think he could hold John Moses Brownings apron and I'm almost certain they aren't related.

A legend, yes, a major player in the development of firearms, yes but no John Moses.

What is it with some of you folks, do you scour the forum looking for things to gripe about? Maybe you need to drink more prune juice or something. I thought the article paid homage to both the man and his rifle, comparing Gen. Kalishikov to his famous invention, burying him in mud pit for a week then exhuming him and cleaning him off and saying he will function normally, I took that as a tribute to the ruggedness and reliability of his namesake rifle. Maybe Russian humor doesn't translate well.

As far to him being on akin to John Moses Browning, I don't buy that, Kalishikov designed the Ak47, and some updated variants, and the PK machine gun.

Mr. Browning has a wide variety of weapons that he designed or improved, many still in use today, over 100 years later, the 1911 and the pistols he designed that led up to it, (the 1900, the 1902, the 1903, the 1905, the 1906, the 1908 and the 1910), The Hi-Power (which was actually completed after his death, but used his design, the Ma-Duece and other heavy machine guns, the BAR, the Auto-5 shotgun, the Winchester Lever Action Model 1887, 1896, 1892, 1894, and 1895, the Winchester Pump Action Shotgun Model 1897, the Remington Model 8 Semi Auto Rifle. With over 7 million 1894s, More than any other centerfire sporting rifle. And the Browning Superposed shotgun, and it's more affordable cousin, the Browning Citori, and the Browning 22. semi auto rifle. I'm sure I left some out, but he sure wasn't famous for just one gun.

Kalishinkov made a gun that is very widely used, and instantly recognizable, but not many other guns. Yes he designed it to operate under the worst conditions, but accuracy suffers from it being so "loose". I don't see how you can compare him to John Moses Browing. Still he deserves respect for creating the AK47, the most widely used Assualt Rifle in the world. I'd put him more on par with Eugene Stoner who brought us the M-16. Although the M-16 requires regular maintenance to keep firing, it's also much more accurate.

In my book, John Moses Browning, stands alone on the top tier, the next level below has the like of Kalishnikov, Stoner, and a few others that have come up with some fine unique weapons.

I didn't open the liink and won't. Just read the op's text. Perhaps the link content would have provided better context. The stand alone post text I took as disrespectful. Reviewing it now, I understand the tribute humor...

Apologies...

ltxi, not reading the link was probably part of the problem, if you don't read the link, you only get a synopsis of the story, and not the whole story. For those afraid to follow links, I'd recommend Kaspersky Internet Suite, or Kaspersky Pure. Kaspersky does a very good job of not opening suspicious pages, and keeping malware off your system.
Sorry if I jumped ugly on you. I'm just tired of the negativity that's been going around. I felt bad for Tinman, as he never posts anything very controversial and brings a lot of humor to the forum.
As for me, I do post things that may aggravate some people, and if you want to rag on my posts, go for it. I don't mind a civil debate, as long as it remains civil, and doesn't get into personal attacks.

You were quite right to call me out....I appreciate it. I was definitely wrong here. Obvious after I grasped the context.

I don't follow many blind links even tho my computers are locked a lot tighter than your average drums. It's a professional paranoia thingy/hazard.

I don't know why you called it a blind link, when Tinman described it pretty well. And he obviously visited and came away in one piece. I can appreciate not wanting to mess up your computer though. Many are the same way. Me, I try and keep things backed up, and if I do get bit hard, can always reformat my OS drive and be back up and running pretty quick. Regular backups are the key though.
I like these newer backup hard drives, that plug into a USB port, and backs up your OS drive, and then will restore the drive after you format it, so you can boot right back up and take off from the last back up. I got one for my brother, since he was always screwing things up, and it's been great. And the cost is pretty reasonable these days, many are under $100. They usually come with a CD to boot from, and start the restore process, or in some cases you have to burn your own CD/DVD. But it's pretty cheap insurance, and you don't have to worry so much about messing up your computer. Add Kaspersky or another top rated AV program on top of that, and you will be in pretty good shape. I think Kaspersky is the best Anti-Virus software, written by former Russian hackers, that know what to look for. I see it's fallen in the ratings on some sites, but is still usually in the top 5 products.
I didn't recommend Norton at all for a few years, most of their professionals quit and I haven't trusted them since, but I think they've probably recovered, McAfee, Trend, Panda, Avira, AVG (Paid Version), and Avast (paid version) aren't bad. A couple new ones, Bit Defender, and Vipre, are rated highly by some sources. None are perfect though and if you happen to get hit by a new virus, none of them will do much good, although some will see unusual activity and alert you. Maybe some of the other computer specialists have a favorite they would recommend. Dang it, there I go hijacking a thread again. Sorry Tinman.

I wish him to rest in peace. I don't think he was a J. Browning ,but he was no slouch. I have seen some of those ak's shoot that I would have thought were done. But there " owners" showed me otherwise.
