In the annuals of renowned military sniperdom (http://www.guns.com/2013/10/17/book-publisher-releases-memorial-edition-american-sniper-fallen-hero-chris-kyle/), many names stand out. Carlos Hathcock (http://www.guns.com/2013/08/13/5-famous-one-shot-stops-videos/), Chris Kyle (http://www.guns.com/2013/01/21/hot-show-2013-navy-seal-chris-kyle-talks-politics-obama-piers-morgan-with-guns-com/), John Plaster, (http://www.guns.com/2010/12/31/one-of-the-most-shared-stories-of-2010/) Vasily Zaytsev, Simo Hayha, and so forth. Wait, Simo who? Well, pull up a chair and lets talk about that.

The article says he is credited with 505 verified kills, mostly Russian Offers and Senior NCO's, and crew served weapons operators. He generally credited with another 200 Russians killed with a sub machine gun, but those kills remain unofficially confirmed. He took out almost a whole Russian Battalion's worth of soldiers, in less than 100 days. He used a Sako Mosin Nagant Model 28-30, with modified iron sights. He was offered a Swedish Mauser Sniper rifle with optics, but turned it down in favor of his trusty Sako. 505 kills in less than 100 days is a pretty amazing feat, and caused many world powers to pay more attention to snipers, the Russians really ran with the idea, and their snipers helped turned the tide at the battles of Stalingrad, Leningrad, and Kursk. If you like military history, that is a pretty good article to read.

I liked it cause the guy was a shorty like me. Probably helped him to conceal himself better. And he used iron sights. Modified, but still iron.
