Run On Guns In California As New Registry Deadline Approaches
California residents are lining up to beat a new ban on unregistered shotguns and rifles, as a 2011 law that creates a State registry for long guns is set to go into effect at the start of the new year.
The law basically treats all long guns sold after Jan. 1, 2014 as handguns. It was passed in a legislative session that also saw the revocation of any form of open carry statewide.
Currently, California handgun owners must register their weapons in a statewide database. But starting next week, owners of long guns must do the same.
As 2013 draws to a close, CBS Sacramento reports that California residents are racing to stores in the hope of acquiring long-barreled firearms before the law requires them to join the ranks of registered gun owners:
Even though the law is at least temporarily boosting his bottom line, Just Guns owner John Deaser isn’t a fan. He says requiring people to register their rifles and shotguns is an unnecessary invasion of privacy.
In the last week of 2013, he says sales of long guns are up 30 to 50 percent.
The new registry ends California gun dealers’ standing practice of destroying the records of their customers as soon as they’ve cleared a background check. It also means that guns currently in existence, including heirloom weapons that have been handed down from one generation of family members to the next, will have to be registered for the first time when they next change hands.
The new State registry will record the make, model and serial number of every firearm owned or purchased in California; and gun owners must voluntarily report any transfer of ownership to the State.

Californians have only themselves to blame. They keep electing and re-electing liberal socialists who would deny them their freedom. I don't feel sorry for them in the least.

Nothing against you Muggsy, but I hear this about NY too. The way the States get broken up affects how the votes work. If you have a bunch of lib antigun folks congregated in areas that have more pull in the voting, they win. It does not mean the entire state supports lib socialists.... come on. NYC is a lib antigun area that controls our entire state. Pro gun folks can do nothing to defeat their crap. But that does not mean all NY is to blame nor all Calif is to blame. That kind of statement makes absolutely no sense. The entire country is to blame for electing Obummer?.... NO WAY! JMO.

The German People were accuised of Cowardice after WWII and the Allies had no sympathy for them. So this shall be the fate of all Californians and as well as the rest of America after the Neo-Nazis have their way with all of us.
Yes it is their fault and yes it will be our fault too for allowing it to happen.
Remember that the demagoguery of America is changing. We are becoming more of a 2nd/3rd World Country where they are accustomed to this kind of Big Government.
When we open our borders and the trash moves in along with the good people and when those people start demanding for us to change our customs to their customs, the Government is happy to oblige these people to get their vote.

Californian Democrats have done a great job of Gerrymandering the districts up to where conservatives have little chance of winning elections there. Same is probably true in NY State.

In NY Gerrymandering is not necessary. NYC and LI have such a concentration of population of liberal idiots they always outweigh the rest of the state. In mid state and western NY may folks are as conservative as small towners in KS.

It's time for all gun owners to become politically active before we all lose our rights. If you don't do anything else make sure you NEVER miss a vote.

You are soooo right. Yet, as a group, gun owners continue to be apathetic.
If every gun owner would write one letter to each of their state's representatives, we could make a difference. But we don't. If every gun owner in this country stood up to be counted, by joining the NRA, we could make a difference. But we don't do that, either.
It's easier to complain to the choir on gun forums.

Absolutely true. Most folks NORTH of NYC are hunters and gun owners....it is a way of life. On the other hand, most folks FROM NYC believe that guns are evil and a threat to them. They have poor to no access to hunting or gun ranges and have no gun handling training. They fear guns and want them abolished. Those from NYC that do travel to upstate NY to hunt, we'd rather they stay back in the city. They trespass and farmers lose horses, donkeys and cows to them....so farmers don't allow hunting on their farms. Folks here on this forum generalize about NY by associating NY STATE gun laws as a fault of NY'ers. Not true. The problem is that NY City folk are much more plentiful and control the laws for the rest of the state. The politicians also come from the city and carry the anti gun legislation. As for geography, MOST of NY land holds people who are pro gun and pro hunting as a way of life. The tiny City of NY holds more people....city people, including the antigun politicians who control the votes for the rest of our beautiful State.

garyb what is so ironic is that friends who live in upstate NY and are HUGE gun owners, shooters, hunters etc wish that NYC and LI would break off and form the 51st state so that their views are not negatively skewed because of the NYC/LI crowd.

The same can be said for Illinois, California and Colorado. The states of Connecticut and Massoftwoshits are total loss causes. I guess I can throw Maryland in with the last two.
At least the citizens of CO are fighting back, and successfully.
