Ok....now a dilemma...went back to fondle e series 1911 and he also had a Colt Delta Elite 10 mm for same price. I need help

Beautiful workmanship on both. Tough choice. In the end, you'll go with the one that can most easily adapt to your color scheme.

Neither....nohow, noway

I think the colt is kinda cool...and I'm somewhat drawn to non-45 cal 1911s. I like the SW but it would be an easy choice for me = 10mm.

Both?

Only way to answer this is to go with personal opinion, so...

Fish scale serrations and an external extractor just don't look right to me on a 1911. I would have to go with the Delta in this case.

I'm more traditional. Neither for me. Give me a Colt Combat Elite.

If forced to pick I choose the Colt. But neither would be my first choice.

For a man of your means, Bawanna's suggestion has real merit.

The Delta would be my first choice, largely because I think external extractors on a 1911 spoil the clean lines of the original design.

As a rule, the Colt seems harder to find while the other gun seems easy to find, making adding one later much easier.

However, if you like neat graphics on your 1911, an Ed Brown Kobra would be a more elegant, albeit more expensive, choice and would get my vote.

Best of luck, sir! I know you will enjoy whatever you choose.

Hate the grip safety crap................but, if cornered, I've got to go with the Smith.

The longest lived gun in my collection is my Delta Elite, aquired in the late 80s if memory serves. It is an absolute tack driver. I would not part with it. That would be my suggestion as I am a major 10mm fan.

Hands down I'd go w/ the Colt. Man that looks good. And in 10mm. Yep, the Colt.

I mentioned before I couldn't get used to the scalloped slide serrations on Smith autos. That stands. The Colt looks soooo much better IMO. Everybody is different, so take that for what its worth.

Your tough decision is a good problem to have. Happy deliberation!!!

I have to go with the S&W for several reasons....

1. Customer Service is top notch with S&W and if you ever had a problem with it then it's no questions asked for life with them....Not sure how Colt is these days...

2. I would prefer a .45 ACP over 10mm due to ammo cost and availability.... I'm not a real fan of 10mm unless you just have to have one...A .45 will be the best choice for self defence, is much cheaper to shoot and much easier on the gun especially if you shoot it a lot...

3. The S&W to me just looks BA...It took a while for the fish scale serrations to grow on me but now I like um...As for the external extractor, JMB's original design was for an external extractor but the Army wanted an internal so it could be repaired easier so he was forced to make it internal....The internal design isn't as strong and while it does make for a cleaner look the external design with coil springs is stronger and more modern...

4. The Smith comes wih a factory Performance Shop action job and hand fitted trigger and IMHO compares to many high end custom 1911's costing much more given all the bells and whistles you get with a stock Smith...

5. Like RRP said, you're going to change the frame color to green and that pretty blue fish scale slide and fancy wood grips would just be beautiful with a powder coated olive green frame....

I hope you get the one you really want and the truth is either one would make a beautiful fantastic keeper 1911 pistol so it's up to you.....Good luck...

S&W .45 would be my selection. Not a huge fan of 10mm for reasons already mentioned. Good luck! :D

I would love to have both, but that ain't gonna happen. Just can't afford it unfortunately. I love the look and size of the Smith, but like the idea of a quality 10mm. Well....I will have to see if I could sell one, that I could possibly part with....that will be possibly harder. I have collection whittled down to basicly only keepers now.:faint2:

I tried to go democrat and vote twice for the colt but it wouldn't let me. If only our govmint's voting booths were that sophisticated....

Ok, you take the Smith, I'll take the Colt and we'll swap once a year. Unless you paint it green, then all bets are off.

I'm a devout 45 guy but pondering this while I love the Smith I'd go the Colt. JohnH loves a 10, and a Colt, well a Colt is as good as it gets. (usually).

I'd have to go with the .45, mostly due to ammo availability and price. I've not seen ANY 10mm ammo at Wal Mart, where I usually go to get my 9mm and .40 and .45 practice ammo. I also like the serrations at the front of the slide, even if they do look like fish scales. The Colt has the more traditional clean line look to it, and is a handsome weapon. But I also think the S&W is a good looking pistol too. With ammo availability the way it has been, I'd go with the .45.

There he goes again, gettin' me all hot-n-bothered w/ a green LDA.

You know, with enough green paint, you could fill in the scaly serrations on that Smith and it'd look OK. Problem solved. So, get the Smith I guess :)

It actually looks really good on you. It's just not me. Just ain't natural to me. Paint goes on a house or a fence, not on a gun.

But again it looks nice and given time I'm might come to like it. After all I've got a couple pistols made of tupperware and a rifle stock too. It's the 20th century and walnut is getting scarce. Can't stand in the way of progress.

Ok you can paint the Smith green but don't mess with the Colt and we'll switch every 6 months. Sounding better.

Don't own any 1911s.
But I've come real close to picking up a Colt Delta Elite 10mm.
It's a classic firearm with a great reputation.

For me it's Colt - not contest.

Well, I am a certified (certifiable?) Colt fan, but I really like the exotic look of the S&W, and everything I have read about the E-series has been positive, plus it would be a good complement to the M&P's, the Combat Masterpiece ... Uh-oh, have I talked myself into something -- What was the question??

That a boy! Whip out that plastic and make that call now.

Wish I could help ya know. Be my good deed for the day or probably the year.

Maybe you can buy one and put the other on layaway and make payments.

Sell some other meaningless crap like tools, cars, wife's jewelry etc.

Kind of instilled a desire for a Delta in me too. I hate you.

Next thing ya know I'll be painting the bottom half of everything I own green.

There is really a pretty simple answer here when you get down to it.

Get both. Shoot both. Sell later.

The 10mm will increase in value. I'm a S&W snob [and I love the looks of the Smith] but I would get the Elite and put some Wilson Shock Buffs in it.

Well....It finally slowed down some at work and I was able to get back to the gun shop. They made it easier for me, the Colt was sold and only had the E Series to pick. So the SC E series followed me home. I have to say it is one beautiful gun, it even came with 8 round mag already so that saves a little money. Also has nice Trijicon night sights. I am going to try hard and leave this one stock. I don't think it needs anything and even fitts my current holsters!
It is impressive,it is lighter feeling than my Springfield Micro Compact 3" 45.
