You might recall the "problem" PM40 that I wailed and ranted about a month or two ago. I broke down and ordered some new magazine followers, and some Wolff springs for it. I ordered the standard and the heavy recoil springs, and installed the standard springs in it.
I finally got to take it to the range today and check it out. 150 rounds, and not a single malfunction! Well... it did fail to chamber the first round a couple of times, but that was on the first round of the six round mag.
I had several FMJ FN handloads ranging from mild to hot, and it ate 'em all up just fine. (Those hot loads can get a little uncomfortable, but the gun is still manageable.) Unless there's trouble, I don't see the need for the heavier recoil springs.
Now, I am beginning to feel better about considering this as a carry gun.
BTW, getting the recoil assy apart wasn't any problem. Got two blocks of hard wood, and clamped the body between them in a vise. Did the same on the nut with two small blocks of wood in vise grip pliers. Came right off and didn't mar the metal at all.
Thanks for the suggestions.
