Official today. Very retro looking. On Gunblast and other sites. If and when is a 45, then I'd get one.

Looks alright, but I am not a fan of the Pederson action or the trigger. I am sure they will sell a few. Time will tell.

Nice to see Remington branching out some.
A bit big for a pocket gun.
Compared to the PM9 a bit ugly too.
PM9 weighs less than 20 ounces with 7 rounds of Hornady in it.

It looks like a Ruger LC9 and a Walther PP hooked up and this was its bastard child. I'll pass.

It doesn't really sing to me but I should probably have one so it can keep practicing.

If it was a 45, that would help the music considerably.

I've got alot of other fish to fry before this but I'll keep looking at it, maybe it will grow on me, they usually do.

I kinda think they had a good lookin' child... I look forward to seeing one in person. At that price I can afford to be spontaneous.

He stubbed his toe and missed it on that one.

I love this time of year, new products coming out for the SHOT show. Although Ruger just seems to introduce stuff anytime.

High school zip gun and an RG12....neither was good.

Looking at the specs, it's basically the same length and weight of a Glock 26, but almost a half inch taller, and less than .25 inch slimmer. Definitely not a pocket pistol. With almost the same dimensions as the baby Glock, less capacity and no track record, I'd say my G26 isn't going anywhere.

Neither is my K9 but that doesn't mean my safe can't get a little fuller.

Sure, nothing wrong with that. Everyone needs a range toy. I just don't see a purpose for this gun in my inventory. I give Remington credit for making something different, even if it is a remake of an older model.

Can't wait to try one out, if the .40 is the same size might be one coming home. I think it's a good lookin' little beast.

Has a fixed barrel like a P7 too. I wonder how well it handles recoil? This new R51 is certainly worth a look.

Same here, even though I have the original M 51 .380 that Mrs. Brat's grandpa carried during the Great Depression:

I kinda like it. Belongs on Battlestar Gallactica as the sidearm to go along w/ the Beretta CX4 storm that the marines carry.

Some techno curiosity points -

Happy to see the "original" delayed action, as designed by JD Pederson is used. This is a great action for pistol, and it pretty much sucks for rifle. In the pistol flavor, the barrel is stationary. Upon firing, the cartridge is allowed to blow back just a tiny amount. Something between 1/32 and 1/16 inch or so. When the case blows back, it takes the bolt (the locking piece) with it. That blowback is like a small rap from a light hammer on the slide. As things move backward, the bolt hits a ledge on the frame and stops. Because of that, the case can no longer blow back, and its still sealing the chamber. But... momentum continues carrying the slide backward. There are rails in the slide that engage the bolt, and after some more movement, the rails lift the bolt off the ledge and the slide and bolt go to a fully rearward postion, allowing ejection, and picking up a new cartridge from the magazine.

There are some very interesting advantages to this mechanism. First, you get a very easy to rack slide, which is great for ladies. Second, is you get a low bore axis, great for ladies and anyone wanting lower felt recoil and greater controllability with less flip, like a HK P7. Third, the stationary barrel affords great accuracy, like the P7 as well. You also get a high riding magazine and very little unsupported chamber area, sort of like a Beretta 92 or Walther P38.

Pederson tried to get the gun as an alternative to the 1911, but his timing was all off. They had some commercial success in smaller caliber as blowback pistols. I don't think many of the original M53 Remington's were ever made. That was the 45ACP version.

And that, folks, is what I really want. A Remington R53. Its not made (yet). I'll wait. I'll probably get a R51, just because its a Pederson derivative. But the 45 version would be the cats-ass. I keep thinking of how super accurate that HKP9s was in 45. I think a Remington would do as well, fixed barrel and such.

Just my 2c. Gunshop in Clearwater, Fl informs me that they are expecting delivery by 3rd week of Feb, or sooner. I may have to swing by there (only a 5 hour drive!) just to take a look.

Stopped at a couple LGS yesterday. Nobody has a clue when they will get these in stock. Could be 60-90 days.

Remington said shipping in February. Assuming they're true to their word, and no last minute "SHOT Show" changes were made... we might see 'em in March, as they trickle through the channel.

However.... (and I'd not be surprised to see), as is often the case with a new pistol, revolver, rifle, shotgun, SpaceBalls flamethrower, etc..... The manufacturer gets some "doh!" feedback and some revisions are made.

Nuttin' we can do, 'cept wait and see.

There is a nice write up on the remington 380 version in this months Guns and Ammo. It will definately compete with the Kahr CW380.

the R51 has potential for a Mrs b4uqzme pistol = easy to rack. So I'm pretty impatient about getting to see one. Oh well. I'll just have to wait.

The LGS will need patience too... with me as I stop in every few days asking if they have one yet. :o

When they are available, I will probably buy one, not for ease of racking, or accuracy, or low bore axis, but simply because of its historical significance as a JD Pederson design.

In some ways, believing in the afterlife as I do, I can't wait to kick off and get to the bosom of the Almighty, because there I'll have a chance to converse with the likes of Browning, and Pederson, and Studler. And while I expect to have to wait to converse with those folks, time will be insignifican. However, I'll leave that blowhard Melvin Johnson to others.

Just my renound luck will surely put the R53 in stainless steel, on the market, right about as I get a blued R51 in hand.
