So, my wife and I headed down to one of our local ranges to break-in this little gem, the Kahr CM9. I was a little apprehensive from some of the chatter here on the forum regarding ftf, fte, magazine issues, etc. Additionally, I had my wife on her first range trip and trying to comfort her and put her at ease as she was nervous while still trying to educate her on the whole process.

We brought the CM9 along with my Ruger P90 and Glock 30S. I was excited to try out the CM9 first and after carefully following the Kahr prep thread I felt I did everything I was supposed to prior to firing.

I went through all the common firearm handling rules, range rules, different stances, grips for her, and how to use the hard sights first instead of just using the laser, etc. I then sighted in the Crimson Trace on the CM9 which was off a bit low and to the right. Got it set-up and my wife and I loaded a few magazines (6 round and extended 7 round) while she flinched from each round fired from the stalls in the inside range. It took her a few minutes to get comfortable with the environment but eventually she did.

I took the first 6 round magazine and fired it off without a hitch using some 115 grain Winchester 100 round box stuff from Wal-mart. It took me a bit to get used to the trigger, keep in my the other two pistols I have. I like the trigger, but it was certainly different from the Glock. My wife followed up and after the first round she fired she put the pistol down facing down range and said I'm not sure I can do this...A hug, a kiss, a little pep talk and she was back at it. We got a regular Annie Oakley here fellas. She fired through the 7 rounds at 20 feet putting them all in the center of the target, probably a 6 inch grouping with one hitting the center nickel sized bullseye. Not too bad for her first time ever. We had a guy next to us watching from his stall and he gave my wife a few good tips on her breathing, stance and just being comfortable and that helped her too.

Well we flew through the 100 rounds of Winchester moving the target down to 25 and then 30 feet and then I wanted to make sure my EDC ammo would feed fine. I put 14 rounds of Hornady Critical Duty 135 grain +p with no objections at all from the CM9. It was a little snappier, but well managed.

All in all I really like this little gun! Comfortable, accurate, concealable, and after just 114 rounds, reliable. I'll throw some more through it, as recommended, but I'm really happy so far.

Afterwards, we ran 50 rounds through the Ruger P90, which my wife actually liked best (heavier, less recoil) out of the three and then another 50 through the Glock 30S which she liked least. The Kahr came in second to her from a comfort/accuracy standpoint. She actually shot the Ruger with standard sights better than the Crimson Trace outfitted Kahr.

Overall, we had a great time and she learned a bunch and more importantly is comfortable now with pistols.

Thanks again to all the great advice and resources here.

Glad you & your wife had a good first experience with your CM9. It is a nice little gun and very easy to carry. Be sure to visit us often here on KahrTalk ... the more the merrier.

That's great! Type of range report I like to read.

Is the CM9 going to be you or your wife's carry pistol?

Congrats.

Nice to see married couples hitting the range and having a good time.

Gonna be a great carry gun. Shoot the hell out of it and maybe even do a few mods ;)

This will be mine. I'm not quite there with her carrying, yet. But we went from her scared of the pistol to comfortable with them. Just a matter of time and exposure.

Thanks.

Geez, I'm sorry to hear that you got one of those defective Kahrs that is totally reliable. I know that you were probably looking forward to FTFs and FTEs, but even Kahr Arms isn't perfect. Even they let a good one slip through inspection once in a while. :) Seriously, you picked an excellent concealed carry pistol. The problem now is that you'll have to buy a second Kahr, so that you and your wife aren't forced to argue over whom is going to carry it. Such is life.

Nice range report. Glad you shared it. I love my Kahr CM9. It's the best carry pistol ever. I also have a wife that was hesitant at first, but we shoot together and she has come around.

I'm glad you and your wife had a productive and fun time at the range. The CM9 is a fine personal protection weapon indeed. It's also good that you are working with your wife to foster her shooting skills and helping to build her confidence levels.

Good luck! My CM9, (that I bought new) was prepped like suggested here, and has been flawless ever since.

It's always a good thing to get the spouse involved. If anything else, she will have some knowledge, in case she would ever need it. I am working with my wife.....it's been too cold to shoot outdoors, and I hate going to indoor ranges. When it warms up, I'll try to get her " back at it". It's also something that can be done together. You don't have to shoot up lots of rounds.
