View Full Version : TMJ ammo
Have any of you guys tried any TMJ ammo for the range. I just found some at a pretty good price but before I pull the trigger;) I was going to get some feedback.

TMJ is fine. It is just like FMJ, but the base of the bullet is not coated. Back when you could pick and choose your brand, I used to shoot a lot of speer lawman TMJ.

I agree with Zamboni. One of my favorite practice rounds is the lawman TMJ. I buy when I can find it.

A quick internet browse brings up posts stating that the plating process for TMJ yields a slightly less accurate bullet. I've shot the Speer Lawman TMJ myself and agree with the above: its fine. Maybe if you are a competitive target shooter....?
I just bought an mk40 and I'm looking for some ammo to shoot to get to know the gun. I found a place that sells reloads 100 rounds for $33 so I thought I would see what you guys think about it.

I do not use ANY reloads period in my firearms. Just me, but I don't have trust in them. Is your firearm new or used. I would use the standard 115 gr. or 124 gr. ammo that's out there. It does make a bit of difference whether your firearm is new or used.
It's a used mk40 elite. I was thinking 165 gr?

Sorry, you did say .40. Reading is fundamental. I am sure that 165gr. will be fine. 180gr. would be fine also. I just have this thing about reloads. Don't trust them unless they were made by my hands. It will definitely be snappy in that small platform. I am used to shooting .40 in larger platforms, and is my favorite cal. to shoot.
Where do you buy your target ammo?
Also I am bad about reading too fast and missing a few details here and there..

It all depends on how much you plan to purchase. Before I got myself somewhat internet savvy, I used to purchase 180gr. Blazer brass from Gander Mt. It was $89.99 for the 250 rd. pack. Now, I use Gunbroker on occasion, Venturammuntion, Luckygunner. There are numerous places to find ammo on the internet. Your only other option is local. You will probably pay more locally, but if you like to keep the local's in business, nothing wrong with that.
