View Full Version : CW380 or P380 Trigger Pull Weight
Does anyone know what the trigger pull weight is on the new CW380 or the older P380?
I am looking to replace my LCP & do not want to get back into a long heavy trigger.
Thanks Mike:amflag:

The Kahr design (and a safety feature) is a long, very smooth trigger pull. My P380 runs about 7 pounds which is very good for a carry piece and not hard to use at all. If you can, try one at a gun dealer before you buy.

a kahr trigger puts the lcp to shame, no comparison. I think kahr will tell u the trigger is close to 7#. U can go to wolffs gunsprings though and buy their 5# strikler spring that they show for their Karhs. It will drop right in ur slide and not change the trigger travelb ut will drop the trigger poundage. Nice simply mod that will not produce lite strikes and screw anything up. and like all springs in guns, etc, more rounds down range anbd that striker spring will take its designed set and I would beur 7# trigger will drop at leat a pound+.:behindsofa:
Just be sure u take that slide apart using the forum tutorial of slide disassembly, and yes do it inside of a big zip lock type bag, That way it will catch any flying peaces..

jocko,
Wolff has the following warning for their springs:
Warning: This spring is for competition use only - not for duty use.
Have there been any failures to fire with the reduced power spring in the P380? Is it better to use the stock spring for defensive use?

NO, none, thaty is strictlyt a CYA legal talk. Most will not call 5# lite either. One can go down to 3.5# on blocks . If u happy with the stock spring stay with it, I can only relate for a fact my findgins and I have over 32K ROUND SOUT OF MY pmj9 AND NEVER ONE LITE STRIKE. Have it in my K9 and my utter PJM9 to. never an issues. Many here on the forum have it and lite strikes is not an issue..

The P380 and CW380 triggers straight from the factory are already as light as I would want for a pocket gun. They might be 7 pounds but they feel closer to 4, because of the extra leverage from the short LOP.

I agree on not making a lighter pull on one of these if you keep it in a pocket holster. If I carried IWB or OWB maybe but it's about as light as I'd want for a pocket holster or even worse, some people carry them alone in the pocket.

I installed the 5# Wolff striker spring in both of my Kahrs and never looked back. There's still a reasonable margin of safety involved.

Keep in mind the Wolff replacement spring changes the weight of pull only. The length of pull doesn't change...which to me is more of a safety than the weight of the pull. Just my $0.02 worth.

ur exctly right.. poundage only. triger travel which is loooong on all kahrs never changes. Never heard of an AD yet on the 5# strriker. but again that is a decision every owner needs to make. If ur gonna think u might pull off a 5# striker over a 7# striker, IMO ur dreamin. Both are safe. I would never recommend a shorter trigger travel for pcket carry, unless it had some kind of external manual safety on it.
My suggestion is if in doubt, don't do it, but if ur thinkin about it then buy the 5# srping and install it and U BE THE JUDGE:behindsofa:
Wolffs puts that WARNING on all trigger eduction springs on all makes of guns. Look at the Glock site on wolffes as a good example. It is simply a CYA statement, no more no less. Most glocks pistols are factory fitted with the 5.5# connector. Certainly IMO 5# is not LITE, but I will say this any kahr facxtory spring what ever poundage it is new, that after a few 1000 rounds relaxes nicely and indeed ur poundage has been reduced. I have yet to find a good trigger gauge that reads the same every time. I have a POS one that can be off over a pound either way, so , just shoot it like u stole it.

Okay. I appreciate this discussion and would consider going to the Wolff #5 or #3.5 springs, but a quick look at the Wolff web site (http://www.gunsprings.com/index.cfm?page=items&cID=1&mID=29) does not show they have springs for the P380. So if anyone is actually using reduced weight Wolff springs in a P380, please let me know which springs you are using. Thanks!

wolffs makes no trigger springs for the 380 kahrs, as usual Imisread ur OP as I did not know it was for the 380. Both cw and Pm 380 trigger systems are identical, one is just tas goodas the utter. Right now the striker springs cannot e changed. Maytbe in time wolffs will do sumpin but IMO I doubt they will either.

I went from a nicely modified LCP with Galloway & RTK mods and MUCH prefer the out of the box Kahr CW380. That being said, I did replace the take down lever of my CW380 with the P380 machined one and I modified the front and back grip by stippling it for no other reason than to make it my "own". If your LCP is standard out of the box you really won't regret the feel of the CW380. Much more solid of a gun. You will laugh of the barrel difference. The LCP felt like I could step on it and crush it. The CW380 feels real.

I own and shoot three Kahr Pistols and I love the trigger on each one. I wouldn't change anything.

lcp is a nice gun for what it is. when the kahrs work like tey should, it then becomes apples and oranges. I know exactlyh whatur saying about the barrel differences. Trust me the LCO is not without issues yet even. They are alot better than at first. Bothg guns willdo as designed though, except I do think u can shoot that kahr 380 until the cows come home and even enjoy the shooting of the kahr 380. I won (owned) them both, owned the 380 kel teks for along time, baqically the same damn guns,...

Doc, I put the 5# Wolff striker spring for the PM9 into my P380 and it works just fine.
