Twenty million target shooters spend about $10 billion a year--nearly the same amount of spending that occurs at the Apple App Store! Those target-shooting expenditures support more than 185,000 jobs and businesses from coast to coast. The numbers, compiled into this useful infographic, come from NSSF's new report, "Target Shooting in America: Millions of Shooters, Billions of Dollars." Combined spending by both target shooters and hunters results in an overall economic boost to the nation of more than $110 billion! That's yet another contribution by sportsmen and women to America, along with supporting conservation and our great sporting heritage

It's good to be above average in SOMETHING. Thanks for the post. And thanks for referencing your source.

I used to spend that much and far more a few years back. Today tough I must admit I have been very lax. Just got so fokking bring shooting my PMJ9 and allthe rounds going in the same hole. No ragged edges either, all perfectly in te same hole, almost like only one bullet went in there. Now that is accuracy I cannot explain.
Other than the last time I shot this group a crow fell out of a tree 75 yards away and he ha dto be 50 feet in the tree. I never went ove rto see what killed him but I know it could not have been ol jocko. Just sayin

I'm still seeking something just to be average at, above average is only something to dream about.

From figures I have seen those estimates are a might bit on the low side.

I found this number interesting so I did some quick math for the year 2013 as to what I "shot up" as far as ammo goes.
I figure I was 2.5X the average with what I consider a slow year for me. :(
I had some years not too long that I don't dare have my wife know what I spent on shooting and firearms.

I know I will probably slow down with time, but for my first full year into guns, I can certainly say that I am above average. On January 1, 2013, I owned no guns and no ammo. Today I own a CM9, an MK9, an E9, a Bersa 380 and a Makarov 380, and about 1,400 rounds of 9mm and about same of .380.

I'll have to take a look at that NSSF report. I wonder if the number could reach even higher than 110 billion. Like I wonder if they added a percentage of 4WD vehicles, and ATV's that many sportsmen use to get their duck or deer blinds out into the field. See if it included all the taxes paid by the Gun manufacturers, and Distributers, and all the employees. The higher that number goes, the better it can be used to persuade legislators that are "one the fence" regarding our 2A rights, into supporting an industry that adds that much money to the economy. They all say they want to keep jobs here, and create more jobs. Perhaps if we showed them the real amount of money that sportsmen spend on shooting supplies, the more likely they may be to uphold our 2A rights. I'd wager that showing actual figures of how much money we add to the economy would do a lot more to sway some legislators, than the emotional arguments that both sides of the issue often employ. Just a thought.

Now that there is just a sad thing if you really think about it...more on Apple apps alone than shooting stuff.

I am above average also. I'm always buying ammo. I need maybe two new handguns this year 2014. I hope I make it.
