Hi Guys, Has anyone come up with a cure for the extra carry mags losing rounds in their holders? I use soft carry holders with velcro flaps for mine and sometimes my mags will empty 6 rounds into the bottom before I notice. What are ya'all doing?

Sounds silly, but I tried facing the bullets in the opposite direction and haven't had a problem since. I carry mine vertically in my 501 mag pocket slots. I figured the walking motion was pushing the cartridge out, so turning it around would push it in. Go figure!

I know what you meant, but at first read it sounded like you were putting the rounds in the mag backwards. I was at the range a couple of months ago when a guy came to the counter complaining that his new SR9 wouldn't feed the first round. When he showed the mag, all the rounds were loaded backwards. When he left, everyone burst out laughing, but the sales rep said it happen quite a lot, especially with all the new gun owners lately. He said that the funniest he has seen was one man who alternated the rounds in the mag - one forward and the next facing the rear. I guess the pick-up rail was suppose to rotate every other round 180 degrees.

I had an officer like that when I was an armorer. This captain was a prior enlisted from the Air Force, and made staff rank (they get issued pistols), then came to the Corps as an ossifer. As a Captain, he had been to the range more than a few times with the pistol, first time I see him he loads all 15 rounds backwards, then tries to chamber a round, which of course got stuck. Loved that captain. There was another time we had a machine gun shoot, he insisted on giving the class for this, (thought he knew more than us armorers) and had a .50cal barrel resting threads down on his boot, us a cane almost. He sees a little garden snake, freaks, and starts trying to kill it by smashing it with the threaded end of the barrel. That's when us armorers left a load in our pants run over and take it away from him. I spent 2 1/2 hours fixing those threads...

We really shouldn't poke fun at new folks joining our ranks, we need them and their support. That being said I have to admit I'm on the floor laughing so hard I think I broke a rib. It's sad that there is this level of lack of common sense.
I remember a news photo awhile back of a female police officer, course the media referred to her as a sharp shooter(?) she was holding an AR type rifle with the magazine inserted backwards. I laughed on that one too alot.
Many need alot of guidance and help and we just gotta provide for the common cause. Oh my sides hurt sooo bad.

I had a boot Lt ask in all seriousness if I could make his rifle left handed like we could for the Beretta. I try to help the new guys on the range out whenever possible, sometimes I pick up their range fee, or bring them, or pick up a box or two of ammo for them.

Are you poking fun at me? YOU TALKIN TO ME????? Nah I know better than that. I only have a few posts here because I don't do that +1 thing. I was raised shooting, however, I am a newbie to shooting in my later years and struggled with tons of questions with my new PM9.
Fortunately the good guys here had the patience to work with me - holding my hand so to speak. When he thought I was ready Jocko told me to stop looking for problems and go shoot it like I stole it. That's when I knew I was ready.
I do have to laugh tho as more than once using that fancy mag loader I get things turned around and start to put the first round in backwards. I quickly look around to make sure nobody saw me and mutter kind words to myself ("and YOU are going to protect WHO?") as I continue.

Nobody's poking fun at you cept maybe Jocko. What your talking about is totally different, I think using the mag loader deal is more a case of our CRS acting up. Kind of like when I get out of my van and forget to turn it off and it's out there running all day, till someone will stop and ask why my van's running. You know it could happen to anyone but seems to effect the more aged and intelligent souls a bit more.
And I may be the one you need to protect so try to pay attention and put the bullets in pointy end forward. That's how I try to remember, pointy end forward, pointy end forward, pointy end forward, kind of a mantra.
Had a instructor up at our state pen when asked how his instruction was going, he said great, most of the officers are starting to naturally have the sights towards the target and the stock to the shoulder without being told. Always a good thing.
Jocko once told me I WAS a problem and to quit stealing stuff, kind of weird huh?

He still calls me a problem... When he talks to me.

SIG actually had a magazine ad that pictured one of their pistols and a loaded magazine with the rounds in backwards. Imagine how many gun people missed that!
That is why a gun is always loaded.

If you're using an UpLula, there's a picture of a bullet on top pointed forward for a "hint", but that doesn't stop me from trying everything possible... like putting the mag in backwards... doesn't load that way. Yeah... I look around, too. Dang, CRS or inattention.

I use a Galco magazine pocket holder and the rounds stay in place, problem is the magazine every once in a while falls off the holster, I just ordered a dmbullard holster and added a magazine holster (only $19) to see if I have better luck with it.
I'll post pictures once I get it and let you know if it works.

Carried loose in the pocket, the rounds can come out of a Kahr mag (not so much with other brands)...happened to me all the time until I decided to break down and get a good mag holder.
I can easily see that the same thing could happen with a "loose" fitting mag holder, as you say.
I haven't had a problem with "tight" fitting leather mag holders where you actually have to "break in" the leather....it's That Tight and form fitted to the magazine itself from lip to heel. My Bullard is one example, among many available.
I also have a Desantis synthetic pocket mag holder that is also pretty decent and solves the problem.

Has anyone tried the mag holder on Kahr's site, it has a retention screw?

I purchased a dble mag holder off the Kahr site it has the retention screw.
I will try it, I also saw somewhere that someone filed a little groove toward the back on top of the mag which they said helped hold the rounds in place, I have some needle files and may take a shot at it.
Thank-you to those who actually answered my question, and did not hijack the thread with nonsense.

I bought a Blackhawk leather mag pouch fitted for 9mm and 40SW that solved that particular problem for me. I use a Galco leather single fitted for my 45s.
