Just received my new GA carry permit in the mail that is good for another 5 years. Five years ago it cost me $45. This year it cost over $100!!! Seems to me that's just another good way to discourage folks from being armed. I will admit it's a lot less expensive than a lot of other states.

That's the problem..........................you shouldn't have to pay at all.................

Considering our social climate today I'm perfectly ok with folk having to be vetted to carry firearms in public. And happy to pay legitimate associated costs.

LOL... Not surprised at all. Not so much here in Georgia, but in other places, the price of exercising a Constitutional right is getting prohibitively expensive.

If you count the cost of the safety course and the fees, here in Connecticut it can cost close to $300 to finally get a permit.

Every five year redo is about $60 here. My non-resident PA permit was less than $20 if I recall correctly......etc. It's all well spent peanuts.

Too many whack jobs out there today.....this ain't the 50's....

Permit Schmermit. They should be ruled illegal and unconstitutional. I have one for the same reason I pay taxes. Because I have to. The day some of my 'responsibities' in life come to a close, I'm burnin' my permit.

How are you vetted? You already bought a gun.

Why do you need a permit to exercise a constitutional right. I believe that our constitution states that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. If it's an infringement of our right to vote to require an individual to possess an ID card why isn't it an infringement of our 2A rights to require that you take a course, pass a test, demonstrate your proficiency with a firearm, pay for a permit and carry an ID card. Seems illogical to me.

My first state carry permit out of New Hampshire in the early 70's required a PD sign-off...shall issue, and I had no problem with that. Forty years later I have even less of a problem with it.

Like it or not, we ain't living in 1950 anymore. Let alone 1776.

I just got my permit renewed for another 5 yrs. Cost was $43. We do not need a permit here in Az. to carry concealed, but I keep mine because I don't have to go thru the background check BS to buy a gun if you have one.

meaning what?

Meaning you already passed a background check. You really believe any amount of gun safety training required by the state makes you safer or better qualifies you to carry concealed vs open vs not at all? Then there is the whole 2a thing.

Gun injuries and deaths due to lack of training happen at home, not by ccw permit holders out on the street. What exactly does a ccw permit protect you from?

Come to Indiana. Lifetime permit = $100.00. No classes or other BS required either.

I live in Georgia and the 100% increase in price for a renewal ticked me off too because they didn't do anything different than before but jacked up the rate because they CAN....Aint right that the Government screws around with the 2nd amendment like they do, what if they decided to charge a fee and require a license in order to use the 1st amendment, would the sheeple comply?....HELL NO!!!!

It is not picking on gun owners....it is just a new way to collect money so they can p!ss it away on more socialism. Look at the government fee's on cell phone bills etc.

Mine has been $20 a year every year for the last 5 years so it sounds OK to me. Money goes straight to the Sheriff's department to fund things for them. They do a background check every year. No forms, no questions, in and out in 5 minutes. They'll even send me a postcard as a reminder and if I don't want to make a trip I send $20 and they'll mail it to me.

Here..depth of and conditions for successful background check is different for a carry permit than for a firearms purchase. As it should be imo.

The requirement for a permit before legal concealed carry offers ro's some additional capability to deal with the loonies.

I was long a fan of no permit required, constitutional concealed carry. I no longer am. 1950 or so is long gone.

the "poor" are the ones who have the majority vote in Illinois, they don't want to get ccw permits or they'd vote for different people.
