View Full Version : CM9 slide stop issues

My CM9 functioned perfectly for the first 300 rounds, then the slide started locking back with rounds in the mag once every 200 rounds or so. At first I thought it was the mag, then it happened a couple times with different mags. I'm a lefty so I'm not hitting the slide stop. Checked the slide stop spring screw and it didn't seem to be tightened down. I tightened it as much as I dared, and so far 300 rounds without a malfunction. However, from what I've read the spring should also put pressure on the slide stop pin to help hold it in place. I've seen many posts that the slide stop is difficult to remove, but mine pops right out. The spring barely puts any pressure on the pin, the only thing holding the slide stop in place is the end of the spring that snaps on top of it. Is this a problem? Should I go ahead and replace the spring, or should I leave it alone as long as it seems to be working?
There's a sticky here someplace... got some pictures in it.
The spring is sort of dual duty. The forward part is a little loop that rides in the groove in the slide stop. It helps to keep it in place and not let it walk out. The rear part is the spring that keeps the slide stop down, under mild pressure, only allowing it to be raised by the magazine follower.
Some ammo has been known to have bullet ogives that don't work well with some of the slide stops as they leave the factory, more or less doing what you describe, but usually with greater frequency. Its something to check.

Pretty sure I read that post. It was my understanding that the loop to the left of the screw puts pressure on the pin to help hold it in, while the part to the right of the spring snaps over the slide stop and holds it down. I tried tightening it down enough that they operate like separate springs, got it close but couldn't get it quite that tight. The loop doesn't really put any pressure on the pin, but the part to the right of the screw seems to hold the stop down. I've also seen posts where people loosen the screw to improve functioning and make it easier to remove/insert the slide stop and it worked fine. I checked the ammo with the slide off, some bullets scrape against the slide stop slightly, but not enough to move it. Mostly been shooting WWB and Federal FMJ.
The right side is the one that control the slide stop's movement up and down... concentrate on that, or you can call Kahr and ask for a new spring. They're easy to get out of shape.

Might try a few hundred more rounds and see if it keeps working properly. Bit nervous about loosening and tightening the screw again.

This happens with mine shooting WWB 147 JHP and gold dot 124+p. I just decided to stick with what wasn't giving an issue.

The slide stop pin can be easily removed from a CM9 and that isn't a problem. Tightening the slide stop spring screw seems to have fixed the problem. Leave well enough alone.
