A kamikaze attack in 1945 … this clip gives you a feel for what it was like in the gun turret.

More than a few times while out at sea I've often wondered what those brave men went through during WWII. While crossing the Atlantic I also wondered what was going through those men's minds on those small wooden ships back in 1492.
On the other side, I can't even comprehend being a Kamikaze pilot, knowing you are on a one way trip, flying into all that fire, with only one outcome on your side...death. Glory comes if you hit your target, not so much if you get shot down. Truly shows how desperate Japan was near the end of the war.
Thanks for posting the clip.

I also have to say that I think that is the biggest reason they were called the greatest generation during ww2. Bravery was something that not in short supply for any branch of the military.

It's amazing to me that anything could get thru that Phalanx and how incredibly awesome those kids of the Greatest Generation really were!

It is my hope that today's spoiled generation would do the same thing if something like ww2 were to ever happen again. I know I would try to emulate their bravery.

Sadly, I don't believe that would ever happen....
